Standout Kansas 2030s Ready to Join Our First Watch List (Pt. 1)

Yes, this fall's high school season will only provide a tiny, limited glimpse of the future stars from this freshman class. We have so many more 2030s to cover when we pivot to the upcoming club season. However, we already have some first-year prep athletes getting a head start on their own scouting report.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>And that means our first Kansas 2030 watch list is not far away. Of course, this won't be a full-fledged set of rankings yet. We have a long way to go for that. Hiltgen dazzled us at our summer showcase in Kansas City, where her unique blend of physicality and finesse entered the spotlight. This medley of skills has primed Hiltgen for a multi-faceted role with Linn, one of Kansas' top competitors in the Class 1A - D2 race. If the Bulldogs need an impactful serving sub or backcourt contributor, Hiltgen is there. She can also run a smooth offense or wield her quick arm in the front row if needed. Macrorie's long frame has already led to scoring success with Olathe Northwest, highlighted by an 11-kill performance against Mill Valley. This dynamic athlete logged some productive middle reps with MAVS KC this spring, but she can mix up her spot in the front row with the Ravens. Carlson had a stellar club season alongside Macrorie and MAVS KC 14 Elite, culminating in a trip to USAV Nationals. When we imagine left-side hitters in the MAVS KC, we usually think of the high-flying athletes with exceptional finesse in the ball control phase. Carlson is no different. King has been a trendsetter among these freshmen and has quickly eclipsed triple-digit kills for the Rams. Stepping into a featured role so soon can be daunting, but King posted double-digit-kill performances in her first three contests of the fall slate. Team success has followed, with Riverton roaring into mid-September with a 9-4 mark. She combines her savvy distribution on the second contact with some game-changing power as a pin attacker. Peabody-Burns has readily leveraged all of these strengths, yielding over a kill per set and over three assists per set. Eickmeyer has had a brilliant entrance on the 5A circuit, compiling nearly five assists per set while operating out of the back row. This experience has given Eickmeyer a crash course on distributing in three-hitter rotations, something she excelled at while competing with KC Power. Russell leads off our discussion of this position group, which can be notoriously difficult for underclassmen to master. Still, this first-year defender has elevated Fort Scott's defense with nearly 100 digs through 25 sets. The Tigers have found themselves in plenty of long rallies lately, allowing Russell to demonstrate her grit and willingness to deliver under pressure.
