Beast of the East Preview, Pool Breakdown Part 1

The 2026 Beast of the East Tournament is set to take place this weekend in Livonia.   Always one of the best prep tournaments each year, 32 teams will compete for the Beast of the East title.   This year's field is stacked with elite talent and should be an outstanding display of Michigan volleyball.   Here's a closer look at four of the eight pools for Beast of the East and players to watch this weekend.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Pool A</h2>   Teams: Grand Rapids Christian, South Lyon, SMCC, Oxford   Grand Rapids Christian has established itself as the top team in all of the state of Michigan right now, as the Eagles are loaded. Their impressive front row will be a lot for any opponent to handle. South Lyon, SMCC, and Oxford will be battling it out to finish second in the pool. The Mustangs are deep around the court. Rockford has shown flashes of being able to compete with the best, but need more consistency. TC Central will get to test itself against great teams to see where it stands, while Ubly is taking on a big challenge as a D4 team competing this weekend. While Hudsonville should be the team to beat, the rest of the pool seems like it should be pretty competitive. North Branch and Flat Rock are definitely in the mix in Division 2, while Lakeland has some athletes that can get on a roll. Hudsonville has too much talent too come up short here, though. Eisenhower has all the talent and depth to make a run at the D1 title this year, it's just a matter if they can put it altogether in the biggest matches. Roscommon is a powerful D3 program, but will have its hands full with Saline and Caledonia, who are capable of beating anyone when on top of their game.
