Upsets and dominant performances shaped Class 1 district play across Missouri. Now the district champions meet in the sectional round, with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. Here's a look at each matchup, the players to watch, and how the games could unfold.

North Pemiscot (23-9-1) vs. Gideon (32-2-1)

North Pemiscot swept Delta and Holcomb to win its district. Gideon did the same against Clarkton and Bell City. Gideon also holds a 12-2 record against common opponents, compared with North Pemiscot's 10-4 mark, and has swept North Pemiscot twice this season.

Players to watch: Gideon libero Jalynn Ford, a 2027 graduate, averages a team-best 5.9 digs per set. She recorded a season-high 40 digs in an earlier win over Bell City. North Pemiscot pin hitter Emily Cecil, a 2028 graduate, was the only player to reach double-digit kills in a previous meeting, finishing with 11.

Prediction: Gideon's defense and Layla Watkins' play should help the Bulldogs earn another sweep.

Valle Catholic (26-9-1) vs. Bismarck (23-8-3)

Valle Catholic beat Zalma 3-0, Oak Ridge 3-1 and Advance 3-1 to claim its district title. Bismarck swept Valley of Caledonia and Crystal City to win its second consecutive district championship. Valle has a 12-1 record against common opponents, while Bismarck is 8-3-2. Valle has won both meetings this season, 2-1 and 3-1.

Players to watch: Valle's Lexie Rayoum had 16 kills, and Ada Bley added 10 in the 3-1 win. For Bismarck, Loryn Pierson, Ayla Hawkins, and Britney Theiss combined for 39 kills.

Prediction: It's tough to beat a strong team three times in one season, but Valle gets it done in a five-set match, ending the defending Class 1 champions' run.

Calvary Lutheran (17-8-3) vs. Lesterville (21-11-4)

Calvary Lutheran swept through districts, beating Bunceton, Columbia Independent, and Russellville. Lesterville took a tougher path as the No. 4 seed: the Bearcats beat Bunker and top-seeded Eminence 3-1, then edged Ellington 16-14 in the fifth set. The teams have no common opponents or previous meetings.

Players to watch: Lesterville's Rylee Laughman reached 1,000 career kills in the district championship, and 2029 setter Laynee Troutt dished out her 1000 assists. Both will need to make a big impact if the Bearcats want to prevail. Calvary Lutheran's Sydney Foutes leads the team with 182 kills and 280 assists.

Prediction: Lesterville went 14-3-2 in October and finished runner-up in two tournaments. Calvary is 8-5-3 this month. Lesterville's recent results against tougher competition point to a 3-1 win.

Winona (27-8-2) vs. School of the Ozarks (22-8-3)

Winona swept Bakersfield and Dora in district play. School of the Ozarks also swept its way through, beating Galena and Greenwood. Their common-opponent results against Crane were similar: Winona won 2-0, while School of the Ozarks won 3-0. The teams have not met this season.

Players to watch: Winona's Lauren Martin was a key contributor in last year's Final Four run and remains a standout, with 474 digs and 349 kills. School of the Ozarks' Ashlynn Saffle leads her team with 404 digs.

Prediction: Last year's runner-up, Winona, keeps its postseason run going and advances to the quarterfinals.

Billings (31-3-1) vs. Lockwood (29-4-2)

Billings swept Purdy and Crane in district play, while Lockwood swept Everton and Greenfield. Billings is 12-2 against common opponents; Lockwood is 11-1-2. Lockwood won the teams' earlier meeting this season, sweeping 25-18, 25-15, 25-20.

Players to watch: Billings' Alexa Garbee finished with 14 kills, 10 digs, and nine assists in the earlier matchup. Lockwood's Asa Lasater led the way with 16 kills and 11 digs.

Prediction: Billings will need more players to reach double-digit kills to avenge that loss. Lockwood's defensive edge and balanced attack give it the advantage in a 3-1 win.

Liberal (23-7-2) vs. Concordia (21-12-1)

Liberal, last year's fourth-place finisher, reached sectionals by sweeping Hume and Appleton City. Concordia won its district as the No. 4 seed, sweeping Kingsville and Midway before beating Archie 3-1 in the final. Against common opponents, Liberal beat Archie but lost to Midway and Butler. Liberal's Ally Barton leads her team with 384 kills.

Prediction: Liberal has recently made a deep postseason run and should win 3-1 to keep its hopes of returning to St. Joseph alive.

Osceola (25-6-2) vs. Sacred Heart (15-14)

Osceola had to work for its district title, beating Lincoln 3-1 and Crest Ridge 3-2. For Sacred Heart, 2030 Ava Figge recorded a team-high 20 assists.

Prediction: Sacred Heart turns the matchup around, with 2028 Addison Figge stepping up to help the Gremlins pull off a five-set upset.

Northland Christian (19-18-2) vs. Rock Port (33-4-1)

Last year's third-place finisher, Northland Christian, swept Lutheran Kansas City and Santa Fe in district play.
