The postseason is here for Missouri Class 3 volleyball, with 16 districts across the state and plenty of opportunities for teams to extend their seasons. I tend to focus most of my work on the central to west side of the State. For the postseason, I focus on these districts. The District 9-16 brackets feature several experienced programs, challenging top seeds and potential matchups that could make for entertaining championship nights.

Here is a look at the eight districts, the teams positioned to make a run, and some players to watch as postseason play begins.

District 9: St. Clair leads a competitive field

Teams: St. Clair (1), Sullivan (2), Owensville (3), Salem (4), Cuba (5), St. James (6)

St. Clair (17-8-2) takes the top seed, but Sullivan (27-7) could be the team to watch after a strong regular season. Owensville (13-14-4) and Salem (16-15-3) will look to take advantage of their positions in the bracket, while Cuba (20-8-2) and St. James (3-25-1) have an opportunity to disrupt the expected order.

St. Clair and Sullivan have faced off this year, a five-set barn burner won by St. Clair and 15 kills from Hailey Hartsook. Sullivan brings an established offensive attack into the postseason, led by sophomore outside hitter Reya Rochlea's 299 kills.

The outlook: Sullivan has the statistical profile to challenge for the district title, but St. Clair's top seed gives the Bulldogs the path to a potential championship run. I expect another tight match in the finals with these two; pick 'em.

District 10: Strafford sets the pace

Teams: Strafford (1), Fair Grove (2), Mountain Grove (3), Ava (4), Buffalo (5)

Strafford (24-4-3) enters as the top seed in a district that features several teams capable of making a run. Fair Grove (13-15-4) holds the second seed, with Mountain Grove (23-11) positioned to challenge from the other side of the bracket. Ava (9-11-5) and Buffalo (5-18-4) will look to create an upset and extend their seasons.

Strafford enters at 24-4-3, placing the Indians among the stronger programs in this group. [player_tooltip player_id='770347' first='Ava' last='Lane'] is pacing the team in kills. Mountain Grove also brings postseason experience and a winning pedigree, while Fair Grove's second seed puts the Eagles in position to pursue a spot in the final. Stafford does own a sweep over Fair Grove last week. Middle Kynlee Peck has been great this year, hitting above .350.

The outlook: Strafford is the team to beat on paper. Fair Grove and Mountain Grove are the programs to watch if the top seed is challenged.

District 11: Clever, Mt. Vernon and Hollister headline the field

Teams: Clever (1), Mt. Vernon (2), Hollister (3), Reeds Spring (4), Forsyth (5), Aurora (6)

District 11 features a strong top three, with Clever earning the No. 1 seed ahead of Mt. Vernon and Hollister. Reeds Spring has the fourth seed, while Forsyth and Aurora will look to make the most of their postseason opportunities.

Clever (21-12) has several contributors who can influence a match in different ways. Sophomore middle hitter Olivia Compton is the team's kills-per-set leader at 2.5; senior setter Addy Hoover is a defensive contributor averaging 5.6 digs per set; and senior setter Lauren Bos is a key playmaker with 425 assists.

Mt. Vernon (18-8-5) and Hollister (31-2-1) will be worth watching as potential challengers to the top seed. Mt. Vernon has a 2-1 record over Clever this season and swept Hollister, giving them one of their two defeats.

The outlook: Clever has the top seed and a balanced group of statistical contributors but I'm going with the beat a team three times thing with Mt. Vernon and [player_tooltip player_id='464561' first='Ziah' last='Schmutz'] leading the team to victory.

District 12: Nevada tops a six-team bracket

Teams: Nevada (1), Lamar (2), East Newton (3), Monett (4), Cassville (5), Seneca (6)

Nevada (22-5-3) leads the District 12 bracket, with Lamar (18-7-3) earning the second seed. East Newton (19-9-4) and Monett (16-16-3) are positioned in the middle of the field, while Cassville and Seneca will try to work their way through the bracket.

The top seed will have to navigate a group with several teams capable of making a postseason push but they do have sweeps over the next three seeds. East Newton and Monett are particularly important teams to monitor as the bracket develops, and Lamar's second seed puts the Tigers in position to challenge Nevada for a place in the championship match, as they do own a win over East Newton. Middle [player_tooltip player_id='840983' first='Sophia' last='Haag'] will try to carry the team on her back.

The outlook: Nevada has the advantage of the top seed and is getting a good sophomore season from pin [player_tooltip player_id='909833' first='Natalie' last='Hope'] and will head to the next round.

District 13: Oak Grove and Clinton lead the way

Teams: Oak Grove (1), Clinton (2), Odessa (3), Knob Noster (4), Holden (5)

Oak Grove takes the top seed in a five-team district, followed by Clinton and Odessa.

Clinton (28-3-2) enters with an impressive record, making them one of the stronger teams in the district. [player_tooltip player_id='909841' first='Brynn' last='Manning'] has been solid from the setter position. Oak Grove (26-3) was my pick early this year to win the title in this class behind the Hudson sisters. I feel Oak Grove played the schedule preparing them for this postseason run.

The outlook: Oak Grove and Clinton played just last week with a sweep by Oak Grove. Same result in my crystal ball.

District 14: Notre Dame de Sion leads a Kansas City-area field

Teams: Notre Dame de Sion (1), Summit Christian Academy (2), Center (3), Ewing Marion Kauffman (4), Paseo Academy (5), Southeast (6)

Notre Dame de Sion (12-18) earns the top seed; despite their record, their schedule was competitive. Summit Christian Academy (12-14-4) is second. The top two seeds played each other on September 1st, with Sion getting the 3-1 win. Center (23-8-4) takes the third seed and has a tie with SCA. The next three are Ewing Marion Kauffman (8-11), Paseo Academy, and Southeast (4-10).

The bracket gives Sion and Summit Christian the most favorable starting positions, but Center will have an opportunity to make a run from the third seed and has played very well this season

The outlook: Any of the top three seeds could win this tournament. No prediction due to officiating at some point in this district.

District 15: St. Pius X tops a six-team bracket

Teams: St. Pius X (Kansas City) (1), Pembroke Hill (2), Excelsior Springs (3), Guadalupe Centers Charter (4), Central (Kansas City) (5), Frontier STEM (6)

St. Pius X (27-5) takes the top seed, followed by Pembroke Hill (21-13) and Excelsior Springs (3-20-2). Pius is another team I felt scheduled strong to make a big push in the last three weeks of the season.

Pembroke Hill's second seed gives the program a favorable route toward a potential championship meeting with St. Pius X. I saw those two teams face off earlier in the season and Pius was strong. They've played a total of three times and St. Pius has their number with three wins.

The outlook: [player_tooltip player_id='485579' first='Mikayla' last='Fox'] is fun to watch for the Warriors, while Pembroke will counter with [player_tooltip player_id='524854' first='Elizabeth' last='Weaver']. The contributing pieces offensively make the difference, with [player_tooltip player_id='912726' first='Gianna' last='Termini'] having a breakout sophomore season. Pius moves on.

District 16: Maryville leads the northern Missouri field

Teams: Maryville (1), Savannah (2), Lawson (3), Chillicothe (4), Cameron (5), Richmond (6)

Maryville (18-6) earns the top seed in District 16, with Savannah in second and Lawson in third.

Maryville has wins over every team in the field. They dropped their first four matches of the year, then went on an eight-match winning streak. Channing Manning is one of the top defenders in the class.

Savannah (18-12-1) will host the tournament and will try to use their home court to their advantage. [player_tooltip player_id='485608' first='Aryana' last='Spry'] is hitting over .400 from the middle position.

The outlook: Maryville has made easy work of the teams in the district and should enter confident after not dropping a set to any of them. Look for them to keep it moving.
