The high school volleyball season is nearing its end and there are some teams and players who are making a name for themselves. This season has proven to be another great showing from our wonderful and amazing players. Let's take a look at some of the intriguing storylines from the Lone Star State as we head into the playoffs.

Freer

Freer sits at No. 1 in Class 2A, and the Buckaroos have looked the part all season. They are 32-2 and have won 15 straight matches. They have won 25 of their last 26 and have not lost on the road in more than a month. Freer won 13 of 14 road matches during that stretch, which shows this team does not need a home crowd to play its best. The Buckaroos showed real toughness in a five set win at Taft back in September. Down two sets to one, Freer took control of the final two sets to grab the win. That comeback has been the exception, since Freer has swept most of its district opponents. The Buckaroos beat Banquete and Agua Dulce in straight sets and have been dominant at the service line. Freer hosts George West tonight in its regular season finale. If the Buckaroos keep playing like this, they will be the team to beat in 2A. [player_tooltip player_id='792674' first='Daniela' last='Salinas'] can do it all on the court as a setter or a libero. She is fast and covers a lot of ground in a hurry. This squad plays a unique middle up defensive scheme in which they take away the tips/roll shots and off-speed of the opposition and forces them to swing away with errors. [player_tooltip player_id='832653' first='Kara' last='Montez'] is another bright spot for this team as she is able to move the ball around to her hitters well. We know they will be ready for anyone who steps in their way on the road to the title.

Harrold

Harrold has been the gold standard in Class 1A for two seasons. The Hornets won the 1A state title two years ago and are back at No. 1 in the TGCA poll this fall. They are 33-4 and have won nine straight matches. Harrold has won eight of its last nine on the road and handled No. 5 Crowell twice in district play. Tuesday's sweep at Crowell snapped the Wildcats' 18 match home winning streak. The Hornets also proved they can play with bigger schools after beating Class 5A Wichita Falls Legacy in four sets in September. Harrold plays with the confidence of a program that has been to the final weekend before. The Hornets rarely make errors and keep opponents under pressure with tough serving. Blum ended Harrold's season last year, and that memory should keep the Hornets sharp. The only issues that some naysayers may talk about with this team is the fact that they are young all across the roster, but that hasn't stopped them so far during their impressive year. From what I can see, expect this group to be standing at the 1A semifinals again in Garland.
