Hitters can't take quality swings if those first contacts do not occur. These five do a sound job on those touches.

Hinson's play is a big reason the Irish are having a highly successful season. Hinson consistently churns out two to three-point passes on defense and serve reception. Hinson takes minimal steps to balls and forms walls around them to jumpstart the Father Ryan offense. Hinson (pictured) steps in to quickly handle setter dumps and makes quick reactions on defense. Hinson puts over quality out of system sets, including back sets and delivers hard, aggressive serves.

Bolton is extremely smooth both on defense and serve reception. Bolton gives the Trojans quality net backup and executes both overhead and bump passes with consistency. Bolton squares her body up to balls with a solid platform to make quality two to three-point passes consistently to setters. Bolton is a solid communicator and does not hide behind blocks.

Criswell slides her feet well then stops quickly in her tracks to track down balls under control. Criswell does not hesitate to swing her arms out and forms walls around balls to make sound two to three-point passes. Criswell is consistent on both defense and serve reception and can track down balls in deep corners. Criswell handles well-struck balls and closes seams quickly.

Koch helps the Bearettes form a solid defense. Koch makes quick passes then gets into secondary positions quickly. The lefty also takes quality swings from the opposite side. Koch makes pancake digs under control. She falls back on well-struck balls, but can move up quickly to dig up the softer shots. Koch is also a sound communicator.

Graham does a good job stopping in her tracks to make quality first touches. Graham is not afraid to go down on her knees to dig up tips. Graham squares her arms up to balls to set up the Golden Eagle offensive attack. Graham also does a great job swinging her arms out to get to balls hit into seams.

Note from Writer

Mike Graham has been writing for Prep Dig for two years and has enjoyed getting to know the volleyball scenes in Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee.
