The Class of 2029 has given us plenty to talk about this fall. Our most recent coverage brought sophomore liberos into the fray, with several underclassmen becoming defensive anchors for their respective teams. Breaking into the varsity spotlight as a second-year athlete remains a rare feat, but Nebraska has its share of trend-breaking stars.

Middle blockers have earned this distinction, too. It's a notoriously difficult position to master, even for steely veterans. But Nebraska's 2029s have elevated their standards to square up against older peers, and we're eyeing so many surging sophomores in the frontcourt.

We have a little of everything, from new names to familiar standouts. Grow the big board.

We're drumming up memories from the season-opening Bellevue West Invite to discuss a sure addition to the 2029 watch list. Gargano wasn't afraid to square up with some volleyball powerhouses at that event, and that has translated to sustained midseason success for the Badger sophomore. Whenever Bennington gets a good pass, Gargano becomes a clear target for opposing blockers to watch. She's hitting at a 0.336 clip as Bennington makes its highly publicized move to the Class A ranks.

Keep piling on the newest watch list candidates. Kreikemeier has surged onto our radar after compiling nearly three kills per set and over one block per set in the Columbus Scotus frontcourt. The Shamrocks know all about dominant volleyball athletes, and this emergent sophomore hopes to be the next in line. Kreiekemeier's evolution as a slide terminator has opened up Scotus' two-hitter rotations, and her work in front of the setter is just as effective.

Werner has proven to be an impactful new piece of the Pierce puzzle. Her debut season with the Bluejays is off to a roaring start, culminating in over two kills per set on a 0.300-plus attacking percentage. Her length and reach in front of the setter have allowed Werner to make a seamless transition into Pierce's starting lineup. She can handle an up-tempo look or slow things down in the '2' gap. This small-town crew has clear aspirations for a postseason return next month.

We've seen this name before. Pinkelman's freshman phenom status helped Wynot climb to the top of Class D2 last year. Now, as a sophomore, this multi-talented attacker has catalyzed a late-season wildcard rise for the defending champs. We've always been drawn to Pinkelman's ability to mix up first-ball routes and keep defenses guessing. She's effectively a middle-opposite hybrid who can score from anywhere, and Pinkelman is on pace to eclipse her 2025 totals, too.

Let's stay in Class D2. Crawford-Sioux County has been a persistent small-town contender and has made appearances in our weekly class-by-class rankings. Norman has sparked the latest charge for the Rams with 2.6 kills per set, already surpassing her total mark from a year ago. Crawford has received a lot more than floor-denting kills from their sophomore hammer. Norman is also quick to close blocks and has a knack for using her frame to generate positive touches. Intrigue is building in the panhandle.

This is a perfect place to check back in with Bosshamer. The Amherst sophomore has seen elite national competition with VCNebraska, helping her 15 Elite squad reach USAV Nationals this summer. But before she entered our club coverage spotlight, Bosshamer was lighting up the scoreboard en route to a Class D1 title with the Broncos. That dominant style has been refined even further in 2026, as shown through her uptick in kills and hitting percentage. Bosshamer is a sure bet to score in one-on-one situations, and she takes more out-of-system swings than you'd expect from a middle blocker. Put it in Bosshamer's window and let her go to work.

How about another shoutout for North Central? The Bassett, NE, group has been in our sophomore spotlight before, and Kuchera adds to the Knights' tremendous youth movement. She soars high above the net tape and can take full advantage of that geometric range. Kuchera was already an indispensable contributor on last year's North Central team, but her defense has taken a big step forward in Year 2. Her 1.4 blocks per set rank among the state's best, giving the Knights a stout net presence to back up their terminal prowess.
