The Prep Dig Dallas Next Up Showcase was outstanding.  It was held at the Competitive Edge Sportsplex in Carrollton, TX and was also live streamed via BallerTV.  There were tons of amazing athletes from all over the state who were giving their all in both the positional drills and also the team scrimmages.  We had each of our court coaches watch their team and select one player from each squad that embodied the core values of Avoli.  There were some really athletic young ladies nominated and we could not be more proud of who was selected to win this prestigious award.     The Avoli Award is not handed out on potential alone. It is given to the player who defines what the event is supposed to look like, not just in skill but in character, in leadership, and in the way she makes the floor feel different when she is on it. At the Prep Dig Up Next Dallas Middle School Camp, that player was [player_tooltip player_id='996882' first='Kennedy' last='Cook'], and it was not a close conversation.   She is 5'11" in the class of 2031. Let that sit for a moment. She has not started her high school career yet and she is already carrying a frame that most programs spend years trying to find at the outside hitter position. But the physical profile is almost beside the point when you watch her compete, because what [player_tooltip player_id='996882' first='Kennedy' last='Cook'] brings to the floor goes well beyond what you can measure with a tape.   From the very first drill of the camp, her approach stood out. The footwork was deliberate and the timing showed a player who has been taught to transfer momentum through her swing rather than relying on arm strength alone to generate power. Her contact point was consistently high and she attacked with an authority that was genuinely impressive given where she is in her development. When the set was imperfect she adjusted without forcing the ball, which is one of the most difficult skills to teach an outside hitter at any age and one of the clearest indicators of a player who understands the position rather than just occupying it.   In serve receive she stayed disciplined and kept her platform in front of her body, passing with location rather than just keeping the ball in play. That detail matters more than most people realize at this age because it tells you a player has been coached to contribute in all six rotations, not just when the ball is set to her. The way she competed defensively throughout the camp reflected the same level of engagement she brought to the attack, and that consistency of effort across every phase of the game is what separates players who look good in highlights from players who impact winning.   What earned [player_tooltip player_id='996882' first='Kennedy' last='Cook'] the Avoli Award was everything that happened away from the ball. She communicated with her teammates from the opening point of the day to the last and the communication was specific and purposeful rather than generic encouragement. When a teammate made an error she was the first one in with a word and a look that brought that player back into the moment. When the competitive intensity of a scrimmage segment elevated, her leadership elevated with it and the players around her responded. Every coach in the building noticed it and every player in the gym felt it.   She carries herself with a maturity that does not match her age on paper, and the character she showed throughout the day is the kind that coaching staffs at the highest level spend years looking for in a recruit.
