And we got to talk about them. These athletes are some of the early leaders in Michigan in the defensive department. These athletes can live in the nightmares of attackers. No quicker way to ruin someone's day than a big stuff block at the net. Unlike the defenders in the back court, these net defenders not only defende their side but can score with their defensive moves. You do not want to get these blockers going!

Let's talk about some of the early BLOCKS stat leaders out of Michigan as of September 14th.

*All stats are received from MaxPreps, if you know an athlete with eye popping stats, be sure to let us know on instagram at PrepDigMichigan*

[player_tooltip player_id='816759' first='Marin' last='Painter'] - Brandon

46 Blocks (39 Solo, 7 Assists) Through 25 Sets

It's an impressive feat to see such numbers from a skill so underrated in the high school space. For [player_tooltip player_id='816759' first='Marin' last='Painter'], she is putting up eye popping numbers in the blocks. Nearing 2 blocks per set, a bulk of these are coming from one on one opportunities at the net.

[player_tooltip player_id='1009293' first='Alexa' last='Apostolovski'] - Utica

35 Blocks (34 Solo, 1 Assists) Through 53 Sets

These freshmen just keep getting tougher and tougher. This is yet another freshman phenom proving herself early on leading a statistical category. At 6'4, its to no surprise that [player_tooltip player_id='1009293' first='Alexa' last='Apostolovski'] is dominating the net the way that she is for Utica. Utica is showing signs to be a very strong team with not only such youth leading the stats, but having big numbers across the board.

[player_tooltip player_id='586777' first='Nemiah' last='Carper'] - Roscommon

34 Blocks (19 Solo, 15 Assists) Through 37 Sets

For Roscommon to make the big splash this year, [player_tooltip player_id='586777' first='Nemiah' last='Carper'] is going to have to be next level. And if these stats show you anything, its that Carper is looking to go out on a high note. Carper is nearly averaging a block per set to go along with a high hitting percentage. This is quite the feat to have, particularly down at the Division 3 level where the name of the game is back court defense and high octane offense. When you have someone like Carper slowing down these hitters, it makes an impression.

[player_tooltip player_id='815540' first='Kyria' last='Pairolero'] - Bath

32 Blocks (16 Solo, 16 Assists) Through 30 Sets

When you see Bath across the net, the first thing you'll see is [player_tooltip player_id='815540' first='Kyria' last='Pairolero']! At 6'3, Pairolero is a wall at the net with a dominating emphasis on her block. She can take over a match with her physicality and it shows it with these stat lines. If she isn't scoring points on her block, she's surely slowing things down and allowing her team the time it needs to capitalize.

[player_tooltip player_id='727743' first='Jada' last='Austin'] - Utica

32 Blocks (32 Solo) Through 53 Sets

There is simply NO breaks when it comes to Utica. If it isn't the freshman powerhouse, it is the veteran leader in the middle putting up big numbers. [player_tooltip player_id='727743' first='Jada' last='Austin'] is along time star for this program and it comes as no surprise to see her atop the stat categories once more.

Brianna Runner - Zion Christian

31 Blocks (28 Solo, 3 Assists) Through 19 Sets

We don't hear from Zion Christian all that often, but with numbers like these, this may be a changing narrative as this season rolls on. When you have a middle that is averaging over a block and a half per set, that is some jaw dropping numbers! Brianna Runner is making some serious impact in the middle.

[player_tooltip player_id='947938' first='Aliyah' last='Potapenko'] - Detroit Country Day

30 Blocks (5 Solo, 25 Assists) Through 22 Sets

After seeing [player_tooltip player_id='947938' first='Aliyah' last='Potapenko'] dominate the net the way she has over the last few seasons at Detroit Country Day, seeing that she is picking up where she left off is no surprise! Potapenko not only picks up, but she is charging ahead averaging nearly a half block per set more than what she was just a season ago. With this kind of presence in mind alongside her increased offensive production in the middle, DCD continues to be a top contender in D2.

Lizzie Laney - Mount Pleasant

30 Blocks (2 Solo, 28 Assists) Through 31 Sets

Mount Pleasant enters the chat with their own big gun in the middle with Lizzie Laney. Averaging nearly a block per set, Laney is providing a presence in the middle that opens quite a bit of opportunities up for her squad. If she is not stuffing the comp down, she is slowing the ball down.

[player_tooltip player_id='582914' first='Ellie' last='Kileen'] - GR Catholic Central

27 Blocks (5 Solo, 22 Assists) Through 26 Sets

Seeing [player_tooltip player_id='582914' first='Ellie' last='Kileen'] within the top ten of the blocks category is no surprise her if you look at the success that she achieved over the club season. From start to finish, Kileen had a fantastic sophomore year between high school and club and has only capitalized on it this fall so far. She is averaging a block per set for GRCC, a dark horse team in D2.

Chloe Schuringa - Zion Christian

26 Blocks (23 Solo, 3 Assists) Through 20 Sets

Whatever they're teaching at Zion Christian, I need to know! Like Utica, there is all gas and NO BREAKS in the middle for this program. First with Brianna Runner, and now with Chloe Schuringa. The two combined are averaging 3 blocks per set. A number that any program would love to see PER MATCH.

Don't Miss a single moment of ALL THINGS VOLLEYBALL ON Line Shot Volleyball on Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook!

NCAA Weekend In Review:

#14 Purdue Upsets #8 SMU after Upsetting #3 Kentucky & Texas

The BEST in COLLEGE and the BEST in HIGH SCHOOL in ONE CITY?!
