Young Hands, Big Role: Freshman Setters Leading Varsity Offenses

They are being asked to make quick decisions, distribute the ball, build connections with their attackers, and lead players who may have several more years of varsity experience. Despite their age, these young setters are already putting up impressive numbers and helping their teams compete and win. Leading a young team to a 6-4 record and a tie for second place in the competitive Three Rivers Conference, Hansen is already showing that she can handle running a varsity offense. She does a great job spreading the ball around, getting all of her attackers involved, and finding the right option in different situations. Lewis has stepped into a big role running the offense and continues to gain valuable experience with every match. She is currently averaging 6 assists per set while directing an offense that has helped Leroy-Ostrander to a 6-9 record so far this season. Now in her second year on varsity, she saw significant setting time as an eighth grader last season and has continued to build on that experience. The young setter has helped lead the varsity squad to a 6-4 start while putting up some impressive numbers along the way. Sweere has already racked up 215 assists and is averaging an impressive 9.35 assists per set. She is also making an impact beyond setting, adding 21 kills and 56 digs. The Gophers are 5-5 so far this season as they work through that transition, and freshman setter [player_tooltip player_id='1042258' first='Adelia' last='Goldsmith'] is one of the young players stepping into a significant role. Goldsmith has already recorded 81 assists, averaging just over 4 assists per set, while adding 9 aces and 24 digs. Taking on setting responsibilities for a program coming off a state tournament run is a big task for a freshman, but Goldsmith is gaining valuable varsity experience early and will be one to watch as she continues to develop.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
