Shaylee Myers Shaylee Myers 6'0" | OH Lincoln Southwest | 2022 State #199 Nation NE of Lincoln Southwest and Premier Volleyball Club decided to head west to continue her academic and volleyball career! She will call Division 1 Fresno State home!
Fresno State is in the San Joaquin Valley, the southern portion of California’s Central Valley. Shaylee comments on the area, “It’s an agricultural part of California. California has beaches and mountains within a few hours from Fresno. My father grew up in Southern California and I’ve visited the area many times. I’m looking forward to exploring the Fresno area too.”
After strong consideration for BYU, South Dakota State, Oklahoma, and Colorado State (in no particular order), the 6’0 junior outside hitter decided on Fresno State and will be a part of the Mountain West Conference that includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State, and Wyoming.
With the lack of on-campus visits, Shaylee and her family ventured to Oklahoma and South Dakota State to see the campuses on their own. She also did virtual visits with Fresno State, BYU, South Dakota State, Arizona, University of Northern Iowa, and UNO.
Recruited by 3rd-year head coach John Widner, Shaylee comments, “The staff is fantastic. Coaches Jonathon and Maggie are very caring, knowledgeable, and genuinely care about their athletes. They made me feel a part of the Fresno State family.”
Shaylee also learned more about the program, culture, and team and made connections with current Fresno State players with Zoom calls.
With over 40 schools contacting Shaylee on June 15, Shaylee gives advice to those being recruited, “I was lucky and had a lot of colleges contact me right away. As time went on I needed to trim the number of schools I was actually considering going too. I’d advise recruits to try to figure out what you really are looking for in a school and volleyball program, because the more of that you know, the easier recruiting can be.”
As of now, Shaylee is undecided on her major, but leaning towards business or social media marketing.
With a 2-1 start at Lincoln Southwest, Shaylee averages 4 kills per set while hitting .292 and 2.6 digs per set.
Coach Cook, what do you think about a Nebraska-Fresno State match up in, let’s say, 2024 or 2025?
