The champions have all been deservedly recognized, so now we’ll take some time to highlight the most intriguing prospects that stood out during the season with consistent and efficient play for their high schools.
We start with the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 1A Division, which saw Neches secure its third-straight State Championship title. Today, we’ll present three players who carried the offensive load for their teams.
Lexi Rogers – Middle-Blocker – Neches – 2021
Lexi Rogers was Neches’ go-to scoring option in their run to a third-straight State Championship title. The 5’10” prospect predicates her offensive game in speed, power and reliability, making of her an easy and obvious option for setter Emily Hill even when she was out of system. The chemistry between the two was seen at its best at the State Championship final, when Rogers, who also has the ability to hit from the right side if needed, registered a match-high 15 kills and three blocks to be awarded as the Championship Match MVP. She was also part of the All-Tournament team and was included at the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State first team in her last season with the Lady Tigers.
Addison Willingham – Middle-Blocker/Outside Hitter – Blum – 2024
Addison Willingham is another middle-blocker who had outstanding production on offense for a team that advanced all the way to the State Championship final and give her the added bonus of doing so as a freshman. The 5’11” Blum prospect is one of those people who were just born to play sports and she does it in a variety of ways, dedicating some of her time to basketball, softball and track and field as well. Willingham led the Lady Cats in kills during the season with 230, ten of which in the final, and an impressive killing efficiency that exceeded 40%. As she becomes more comfortable as a passer, the All-Tournament team selection also provides her team some flexibility with the ability to be deployed as an outside hitter. Willingham also made it to the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State first team.
Brooklyn Jaeger Brooklyn Jaeger 5'9" | OH Fayetteville | 2023 State TX – Outside Hitter – Fayetteville – 2023
When it’s about scoring, it’s hard to argue against Brooklyn Jaeger Brooklyn Jaeger 5'9" | OH Fayetteville | 2023 State TX . The 5’8” outside hitter is an absolute machine at the net, using her jaw-dropping jumping ability and her heavy arm to score in bunches for Fayetteville. The Lady Lions knew about her scoring ability more than anyone else and set Jaeger up at the net 1,329 times during the season. She converted 564 of these attempts into points and scored in double digits in all but one of the team’s 26 matches. Jaeger scored 30 or more points in five opportunities, including the final match of the season, in which he registered 44 kills against D’Hanis. She was included at the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State first team. She’s also ranked 57th in our rankings for the class of 2023.
