Rankings Update For ’23: Setting The Table

<p>OK, bad pun. But it still works in the time of COVID, as we're going to tackle the five setters we like from the state of Indiana for the class of 2023.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="85899" first="Grace" last="Purichia"], 5-7, Union UA 16-1</strong></p> <p>When your mom is the club director and one of the most successful coaches in the history of Indiana, you're going to be a volleyball player in some capacity. Her older sister is graduating in a few years, and will be a pin attacker at Eastern Kentucky. Grace, however, might be the higher profile player. Her ability to run a high-powered and high-level offense is her specialty, both in high school and club. Plus, she's also an active and exemplary outdoor player, having placed in the top ten in multiple junior sand events. It's almost as if she were born for this sport, and she's just getting better.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="85920" first="Naija" last="Gadis"], 5-8, Rev 17-1</strong></p> <p>You read that right; Naija is playing up a year for a newer club and is more than capable of running a 5-1 at that level. Probably the most athletic on this list, her speed and jumping ability allow her to get balls a couple of girls on this list can't get to. Also from an excellent high school program, she has a state finals appearance in her list of accomplishments already. It's only a matter of time before she gets over the hump and wins it all.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="106252" first="Avery" last="Hales"], 5-10, Dunes 16 Black</strong></p> <p>She's been running the show since her freshman year at Warsaw, and doesn't look to give up the position any time soon. This is a high-level diamond of a setter that can do everything you need in a 5-1 floor general without the flash and "look-at-me" attitude that some setters might carry. A no-nonsense workhorse of a player, Avery will make someone happy in the fall of 2023.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="85907" first="Mallory" last="Dills"], 5-9, Munciana 16 Ninjas</strong></p> <p>Continuing on the selfless track, Mallory is another reliable, hard-working, high-level setter that gets overlooked because of the talent around her. Her size is above average for this class of setters, and has known nothing but 1s teams while at Munciana. Her volleyball IQ is growing, and it shows, considering the early returns on her teams' successes this club season.</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="99585" first="Monica" last="Jones"], 5-8, Rev, 16-1</strong></p> <p>I have two Rev setters here for one reason; it's hard to NOT include that each run a 5-1 and are from the same class and the same city (Indy). If there's a possibility to be a silent leader by example at the setting position, it's Monica. Her smooth and comfortable athleticism leads many to believe that not only has she done this for a while, but she's always been a high-level setter. </p>
