Top Performers from the State Sectional Tournaments

<p>As the girls high school season officially came to a close this past week, there is an opportunity to look back at the some of the top performers from the Sectional Tournaments. Let’s dive in and highlight some players that were out of this world last week. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="99815" first="Mackenzie" last="Wiggins"] (Sparta)</p> <p>Wiggins helped lead Sparta to a sectional crown in the North 1 Section of Group 2. She carried her team all-season and it was even taken up a notch in the State Tournament. In her three state matches, she finished with 42 kills and 22 digs. Her dominant swing allowed her to be the focal point of the offense anywhere on the court on the outside, opposite and back row. It was something special to watch. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="99833" first="Kiara" last="Polanco"] (Bogota)</p> <p>Bogota may have been the 11 seed in the North 1 Group 1 section but it never felt like they weren’t the odds-on favorite. They even had to play an extra match and the team was absolutely dominant led by [player_tooltip player_id="99833" first="Kiara" last="Polanco"]. Polanco on the outside was continuously fed to rack up kills. She racked up 54 kills and 30 digs in her four matches. Her creativity on her swing was phenomenal by utilizing different arm slots, angles and spin to give herself the best opportunity to score. </p> <p>[player_tooltip player_id="99806" first="Adelina" last="Berisha"] (Scotch Plains-Fanwood)</p> <p>Next, is Berisha who led Scotch Plains-Fanwood to a title in the Central section of Group 3. Berisha had one of the top performances in the entire tournament where she stepped up in the final against Colonia with 24 kills! The best players perform in the most important moments and Berisha demonstrated this in the final being deceptive to go cross-court, down the line or even hit through the block. In her three matches, she finished with 41 kills and 26 digs. </p> <p>Stephanie Soares (Southern)</p> <p>Lastly, we have Soares, who is the engine for the Southern offense. Watching her set is something special as she rarely has a bad set. It’s always in the correct spot with perfect weight to give her teammates an opportunity to score. In her four matches, she finished with 107 assists including 41 in the final! Yes, 41 assists! She led the way for Southern to bring in the crown for the South Section of Group 4. </p>
