Continuing our previews of all teams from Indiana that qualified for Nationals, we now touch on the oldest group, specifically Circle City 17 White.

’22, [player_tooltip player_id="85850" first="Julia" last="Fernandes"], 5-7 S, Carmel

When the setter in front of you on the depth chart, in the same graduating class, on the same high school team, has already committed to North Carolina (congrats, [player_tooltip player_id="85810" first="Ella" last="Bostic"]!), you need to make your mark somewhere. Insert Julia, who plays bigger than her 5-7 frame and can hold her own in a 5-1. I’ve quite literally watched Miss Fernandes grow up, from a small, regional-level setter to going to Nationals running the show on an American-level squad. I like her high, soft hands, ability to make every ball hittable, and her defense.

’22, [player_tooltip player_id="85861" first="Mason" last="Bomba"], 5-11 OH, Bloomington South

One of the better names in the club circuit, Mason knows one speed---her "bombing" arm swing as an instant terminator. She projects to be a three-rotation left side at the next level, but her ball control is improving, and could develop into a six-rotation option for a smaller school. She’s strong, fast and hits a heavy ball from the pin. Developmentally, she’ll be a steal for anyone needing a heavy-armed attacker.

’22, [player_tooltip player_id="85863" first="Emma" last="Morris"], 6-0 MB, Perry Meridian

Smart, fast and efficient, Miss Morris will be an excellent M2 at the next level in the fall of 2022. Her high arm swing, ability to terminate and defensive prowess at the net will make her a fine addition to anyone who needs a six-footer that plays bigger than her frame. I project her as an M2 because of how exceptional she is at terminating off of two feet, but could develop into an M1 depending on how much training she’ll receive doing so. Her high school just changed coaches, so we’ll see.

’22, [player_tooltip player_id="85857" first="Lauren" last="Watson"], 5-11 OH, committed to West Virginia State University

A McCutcheon kid from Lafayette, I’m cheating a bit here because Lauren has already committed to play in ’22. Lauren is the only player on 17-3 who has committed anywhere. She’s a six-rotation OH with the ability to take over a match in multiple areas, and is a positive influence on anyone around her. My guess is that she’ll be leaned on heavily in Las Vegas for all four days if the team wants to see some success.
