We are taking a dive into four athletes that are uncommitted and flying under the radar when it comes to the recruiting.
Uncommitted Athletes
Mary Kate Arundel– New Wave 18 Tsunami~MB
Arundel is one athlete that has a different approach when it comes to her athletic ability. The middle blocker is a solid and well rounded blocker, but has the ability to act as a back up outside hitter as she has an impressive strong right swing. In her high school season, she had a career total of 180 kills, 51 solo blocks and 112 assisted blocks. Arundel is a strong blocker and is a effective blocker as she is able to read the floor well and understand the movement and location of the ball at all times. Arubnel is attentive and effective as an overall athlete and her communication skills with her teammates is what stands out as she works as a unit more than an individual athlete.
Olivia Witek– New Wave 18 Tsunami~MB
Witek is an athlete that has been undermined by the recruiting process and is continuing her athletic journey in hoping to find a home on someone’s roster this upcoming season. Witek has all of the qualities of middle blockers, but makes her stand out is her ability to show commitment and aggressive competition when it comes to her seeing action on the court. What I see with most athletes are not all of them are early bloomers when its comes to outshining in the first few years of their careers, but Witek has what it takes on a competitive level to compete and to show that she is not one that deserves to be overlooked. Witek is an effective and attentive blocker that reads the floor well and moves quickly with the flow of the ball.
Hope Williams– Elevate VBC 17 Teal~ OH/MH
Williams is a very active athlete on the court and it shows in her overall performance. Williams is without a doubt a powerful athlete and an attentive athlete. She’s fast and has the ability to read all angles of the court, which allows her to be at an advantage to work well with the flow of movement on the court. Coming out of her season with her high school, Williams had 97 kills in 44 played sets, which is effective considering the highs and lows most athletes experienced due to COVID. In addition, she did manage to secure 142 digs and Williams is without a doubt a very defensive player. At this weekend’s Gauntlet, look out for Williams and watch her in action. She deserves to fly above the radar and clock herself on someone’s watch list.
Sydney Withrow– Elevate VBC 17 Teal~OPP
Withrow stands at 5’7″ and has a very effective and impressive strong left swing. Being a leftie and having a strong swing brings out the solid foundation that she has and the fundamental training that she withholds. Withrow is consistent and is definitely an athlete that has the athleticism and mindset to be an elite player. She has an approach block jump of 8’5″ and block jump of 8′ which is impressive for an OH/OPP that has her height. Withrow is an athlete that has been one that has flown under the radar for way too long and with the exposure this weekend, she is going to be an athlete to watch and bring out of that radar and on top with the rest of the rising elite athletes.
