Now that we’ve covered the favorites in 1A, it’s time to move on to the 2A group I’ve tabbed as must-see. We start with the Central Indiana Conference champion Tigers of Alexandria. A five-set loss to 2A power Wapahani in the sectional is all that separated them from a deep run in the postseason. Because of Wapahani’s tournament success factor, they won’t play each other again until the fall of ’23; Wapahani moves up to 3A for the next few years. Does this mean Alexandria can go on a run with this solid senior class?

’22, [player_tooltip player_id="125524" first="Taylor" last="Stinefield"], 5-7 MB/OH

I always edge towards kids that can lead a team physically rather than emotionally. In Taylor’s case, she’s both, and will be relied upon one more time for the Tigers this fall. Her tennis background makes her footwork flawless, and carries a heavy arm to go along with her ability to get to any ball defensively at the net. She’ll most likely play middle for the Tigers this fall, but the next level will probably have her be a pin attacker.

’22, Olivia Hall, 5-7 OH

As a Munciana-trained kid, Olivia played as a primary attacker for the 17-3 squad. I expect more of the same, but the training might lead her to be the other middle for this undersized squad. She’s the second-best returning offensive option for the Tigers, and might be used as a hybrid attacker that can hit from all positions in front.

’22, Carlie Remington, 5-5 DS/L

The libero for this squad is also a high-level tennis player, and her footwork shows when she has the special jersey on. However, a knee injury derailed her junior season in October, leaving Class of ’23 DS Addyson Warren to carry the load. She played admirably as the only Tiger with double-digit digs in that match against Wapahani, but Carlie is the returner that will make the biggest impact for Alexandria moving forward.

’22, Kendall Parker, 5-4 S

A softball standout in her own right, Kendall already has over 1100 assists in volleyball, and should make a run at the 2000 assist mark before the end of this season. Since I’m a setter as well, I’ll say it; this team will go as far as Kendall can take them. She leads by example, has the athleticism to get to most, if not all, passes, and is in her senior season. Something to play for, indeed.
