Last Season
In a conference season where teams did not play the same number of games. Records relied heavily on winning percentage. Their were three teams that stood out: Mother Seton, East Brunswick and J.P. Stevens. Mother Seton went perfect the entire season not just in conference to barely edge out the other two.
Favorites
Mother Seton
Mother Seton’s run of dominance has been nothing short of spectacular. The team has gone 31-3 in the past two seasons with a perfect season last spring. You know what’s scary is this team is still relatively young as a majority of their key players are just entering their junior campaigns. They are expected to have another monster season.
East Brunswick
East Brunswick took major strides a season ago. A team that took full-advantage of the talent around them and put everything together last season to be crowned sectional champs. They even took down their nemesis in J.P. Stevens to get there after losing to them in the regular season. The team’s core returns so expect them to be right there.
J.P. Stevens
Lastly, we J.P. Stevens who is right there to be the best in GMC year-in and year-out. They do lose one of the top players in the state in Simrin Carlsen Simrin Carlsen 5'10" | OH John P. Stevens | 2021 State NJ . It will most likely a job by committee to replace her numbers but the team is hungry after being knocked out by East Brunswick in the sectional tournament.
Dark Horses
St. Thomas Aquinas
St. Thomas Aquinas raised eyebrows in the GMC in the spring with a significant turnaround to be truly competitive in conference play. The team will now be seen as a significant threat however they will be up for the challenge. The question will be is can they steal a match against the top 3.
Woodbridge
Woodbridge had one of the shorter seasons due to being off for a couple weeks. However, the team found their groove in the sectional tournament. The team showed flashes in the spring so I could see them making things interesting the conference if everything goes right for them.
