#5: Linton-Stockton (12-2)
Previous Ranking: NR
The Miners’ only losses are to 1A #3 Loogootee and 4A Terre Haute South. It’s their wins I’m mostly impressed with; defending 2A champ Barr-Reeve, 1A #5 Springs Valley, and a tough 10-5 Monrovia squad. A matchup tonight against another scrappy squad, Southridge, should test the Miner’s mettle. Look for 6-1 senior middle Gentry Warrick Gentry Warrick 6'0" | MB Linton-Stockton | 2022 State IN to bring her size and her a-game tonight.
#4: Western Boone (10-5)
Previous Ranking: #4
You can’t fault the Stars for trying. All five of their losses are to 4A squads, which is excellent preparation for the postseason pressure that this undersized squad will be under come October. A recent win over 1A #4 Wes-Del and a 4A win over Guerin Catholic kept the Stars exactly where they were last week, with a match against another tough 4A opponent, McCutcheon, tonight. The setter duo in this 6-2 can run this offense to perfection. Junior Elena Gubera Elena Gubera 5'5" | DS/L Western Boone | 2023 State IN has the experience, and freshman Janie Ransom has the athleticism.
#3: Andrean (17-4)
Previous Ranking: #1
Two losses over the weekend to Carroll and Elkhart had the Fighting 59ers slip to the #3 spot this week. Both were tough losses to bigger and stronger teams, but they should be back to their winning ways against Hobart and Highland this week. Maddie Kmetz Maddie Kmetz 5'9" | S Andrean | 2022 State IN (’22, 5-8 S) is still the reason this team is so good, and her experience is beyond what a normal senior co-captain is capable of.
#2: Madison-Grant (13-2)
Previous Ranking: #3
Their only losses are to 4A Pendleton Heights and…..4A Pendleton Heights. A huge win over Alexandria-Monroe boosted the Argylls in this week’s ranking, with a Central Indiana Conference match against 11-4 Oak Hill on tap tonight. Munciana-trained Alexis Baney (’23, 5-10 MB/OH) rarely makes errors, and will be a huge part of their success moving forward.
#1: Tecumseh (14-2)
Previous Ranking: #2
The Braves haven’t lost since dropping a contest to 4A Terre Haute South, and won’t have much of a challenge in their schedule until 1A #5 Springs Valley next Monday. Everyone knows about First-Team All-State Kaybree Oxley Kaybree Oxley 5'10" | MB Tecumseh | 2022 State IN , but what about her supporting cast? Payge Johnson (’24, 5-8 S/OH) leads the team in aces, digs and assists (they run a 6-2), and averages over two kills a set while hitting near .300 on the season. Sounds like the exact kid you need to accompany an All-Stater on a postseason run.
