Let’s tee it up here. We’ll be priming you for some crucial tilts around the Cornhusker State as the wildcard standings are sure to shuffle in almost every class. In short, it’s just another week in Nebraska!
So, here are some storylines to follow.
Monday Mashup in Class A
The big matchups are coming at us really early: there’s a huge triangular in Class A.
Papillion-La Vista South, Millard West, and Omaha Westside are set to clash in a compelling round-robin that will make waves early in Week 7. The hosting Titans are the undisputed top team in the state, with the Wildcats currently occupying the second spot in Class A.
Meanwhile, this is a big opportunity for Westside. The Warriors are coming off a pair of solid wins last week and have a chance to climb up the Class A standings. This team has the talent to compete with anyone, and I’m excited to see if they can take a huge step forward on Monday.
Tuesday (10/5)
Time to check out some Tuesday tilts.
Clarkson/Leigh is hosting an intriguing triangular as Lutheran High Northeast and Shelby/Rising City visit the red-hot Patriots. There’s still a lot yet to be settled in Class C2, and this trio should be fun to watch.
Waverly hosts Wahoo in a match that should draw a lot of eyes. The Vikings are anxious to reclaim the services of senior Bekka Allick Bekka Allick 6'3" | MB Waverly | 2022 State #7 Nation NE , who is fresh off a bronze-medal run for the USA U18 team in Mexico. Of course, Wahoo has some veteran talent of its own and will not be intimidated by their opponent.
If you’re looking for another big Class A matchup to track on Tuesday night, keep an eye on Lincoln Pius X as they host Fremont. These two squads carry some solid momentum heading into this battle, and their postseason aspirations remain unchanged.
Elsewhere, Fullerton and Nebraska Christian should produce some good volleyball when they face off on Tuesday. These top performers from Class C2 and D1 will continue to hone their skills before the end of the regular season.
Thursday (10/7)
On to Thursday.
There’s another big trio in Class C2 to follow here. The aforementioned LHNE will find itself in another set of battles against Wisner-Pilger and Guardian Angels Central Catholic. Again, I’ll echo the big theme: these matchups are excellent opportunities for improvement before the stakes get higher.
Papillion-La Vista is a team that’s embracing improvement, too, and they’ll have two more shots to do that against Omaha Marian and Lincoln Pius X on Thursday.
Millard West returns home on Thursday to face Gretna. You can safely expect a great contest when two of the best ball control teams in the state face each other across the net.
Lastly, check out the D1 matchup between Howells-Dodge and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family. This pair of athletic powerhouses should produce an exciting match as they both look to build on solid seasons.
