State Roundup: East Brunswick Stays Perfect

<p>Tournament play is starting to wind down as teams anxiously wait for the beginning of State. Two tournaments took place yesterday. Let’s take a closer took at all those matchups and who prevailed. It’s that time of the year when you want to see best vs best.</p>
<p><em><strong>East Brunswick Cruises Past J.P. Stevens</strong></em></p>
<p>East Brunswick went on a couple runs in both sets and never looked back as they were dominant at Old Bridge High School when they took on J.P. Stevens in the GMC final to win in straight sets 25-12, 25-11. Both sets began in a back-and-forth 7-7 tie, but the Bears went on impressive runs of 18-5 and 18-4 to seal it over J.P. Stevens.</p>
<p>The balanced offense was on display as three players had five plus kills and [player_tooltip player_id="99869" first="Ysabella" last="Sapienza"] was the focal point spreading the ball around to finish with 16 assists. </p>
<p><em><strong>Somerset County Tournament</strong></em></p>
<p>The semifinals took place in the Somerset County tournament yesterday and the final will take place tonight with Hillsborough taking on Ridge. How did they get there? Hillsborough had to rally from a set down to come back and take down Bridgewater-Raritan in three sets. Aileen Xue led the way with 13 kills and 10 digs. </p>
<p>In the other semifinal, Ridge defeated Mount St. Mary in straight sets 25-16, 25-21 behind a complete performance with five players recording multiple kills and five players recording multiple digs. It was all hands on deck led by Chelsea Tancredi who finished with 7 kills and 8 digs. [player_tooltip player_id="99857" first="Mariella" last="Hilyard"] led the way for Mount St. Mary in the loss with 13 kills and 12 digs. </p>
