Overall top seed Andale enters at 36-2. Their closes match was -17 in the finals against Rose Hill. McKenzie Fairchild McKenzie Fairchild 5'10" | MB Andale | 2023 State KS went for 10 kills in the win.
The second seed will be Altamont-Labette County (37-3), which was the top overall seed in the Hayden bracket. They had to win a third set thriller over Wamego to get here. Anna Dean Anna Dean 6'0" | OH Labette County | 2022 State KS went off for 18 kills in the win.
Baldwin will be the third seed at 28-4. They had to get by a scrappy Louisburg team in three. Chaney Barth was clutch, dropping 17 kills and they got 11 from Fisayo Afonja. Sophie Baker had 31 assists in the win.
Circle earns the 4th seed after taking care of Concordia and Clearwater in straight sets. They now sit at 33-6,
Fifth seed McPherson (33-6) can make some noise as a lower seed. They beat Abilene in two to get to the ship. Riann Swanson will look to carry the Bullpups
As the sixth seed, Augusta (28-9) was one of the “upset” picks that made us look smart. Granted, 4 versus 5 matchups aren’t really an upset, we’ll take it. As we predicted, Augusta took down Clay Center in a third set 28-26 electric match. They will try to keep that match flowing in Hutch.
Seventh seed Ottawa (21-16) was another prediction that raised some eyebrows. As the 6th seed, we believed this level of competition was stronger and they made us look good taking down Fort Scott fairly easy in straight sets behind Emery Keebaugh’s 14 kills and 6 digs.
The lone team with a losing record to earn their trip to state is eighth seed Bishop Miege (14-23. As we said in our prediction last week, this wasn’t a shock. They play in a tough conference and week in and week out play tough competition. And as the eighth seed, teams better not take them for granted.
Predictions
