With some major club tournaments going on in Rosemont, Illinois and Columbus, Ohio there was another battle of top volleyball athletes in the Division 1 high jump at the WIAA State Track Meet held in La Crosse this past Thursday and Friday.

Some of the top ten in the WIAA Division 1 high jump have already committed to play Division 1 volleyball. Emily Scott of Kimberly came in as the two time defending state champion is a middle blocker heading to Louisville, playing for the Cardinals this Fall. Sophee Mink of DeForest came into the state meet with a height of 5’4, the Junior has committed to play volleyball at High Point University in North Carolina. Cece Huhn, a top player for Plymouth and Wisconsin Volleyball Academy was coming in with a jump of 5’2 and will be playing volleyball for Northern Colorado. Elise Goetzinger has had quite the Sophomore year, leading her Mount Horeb High School Volleyball team to a sectional runner-up, committing to Kentucky for volleyball, and heading into the state track meet with a jump of 5’5.
[caption id="attachment_16341" align="alignright" width="300"] Goetzinger competes at WIAA State High Jump (Photo Cred: Wisconsin State Journal)[/caption]
Come the day of competitive and miss here or there can separate an athlete from 1st to 3rd or 4th to 11th. Mink and Scott both cleared 5’6, which resulted in a three way tie with Annie Guerrero of West Bend East. When you factor in the number of misses for tie breakers Guerrero took first, Mink at second, and Scott taking third. Seven athletes cleared 5’4 which breaks down into the number of misses. Aliza Van den Elzen, a Junior from Hortonville who is also a middle blocker on their volleyball team finished in a tie for fourth with Goetzinger finishing in a tie for 9th.

Huhn finished 12th with a jump of 5’2 and an athlete to keep an eye on for the future would be Wausau West Freshman, Robyn Kirsch who finished 18th with a jump of 5’0. Kirsch was a top 2021 player on the Wisconsin Ice 15 National team and will be coming into her Sophomore season of volleyball as a high flyer outside hitter to make a major impact at West.

Rizner, Rowoldt Finish Stellar High School Careers

Amber Rowoldt won a state title in volleyball, Madison Rizner was able to finish her high school career with a state championship in the triple jump at 38’0. Rowoldt finished third in the triple jump at 36’01. The two have been playing club volleyball for Capital Volleyball Academy out of Madison. With the two having highly decorated prep careers they will taking their academics and athletics out of state. Rizner has signed onto Winona State in Minnesota, while Rowoldt is heading South to Palm Beach Atlantic, a Division 2 school in Palm Beach Florida to play volleyball.
