Of course, be sure to check out our other looks at VCNebraska teams with 18 Elite, 18 Black, 17 Elite, and 17 Black already published. Now, though, it’s time to look at the 16s that will be generating plenty of buzz in the VCN gym. Here’s 16 Elite.
Formidable Up Front
This group is highlighted by some of the most impressive attackers in the Class of 2024 — and beyond.
The “beyond” caveat is needed because Tia Traudt Tia Traudt 6'0" | OH Grand Island | 2025 State NE did a lot of scoring for this team last season, and she’s a 2025 playing a year up. Traudt is a rising star from Grand Island with a ton of athletic bloodlines, and she’s only just beginning to show her true potential.
Megan Waters Megan Waters 5'10" | OH Lincoln East | 2024 State NE and Macy Roth Macy Roth 5'10" | OH Lincoln North Star | 2024 State NE are two 2024 pin hitters from the Lincoln Public Schools system that I really enjoyed watching this fall. Waters quickly emerged as a go-to attacker from East, while Roth has been impressing for North Star since she was a freshman. Standout moments will continue to pile up as these two join forces for club competition. Also, don’t lose sight of Waters’ high school teammate, Brynne Topolski, who showed flashes of her power and skill with the Spartans. She’s a great candidate to become one of our 2024 stock risers.
We can stay in the LPS footprint to talk about a pair of Lincoln Southwest middle blockers that are returning to anchor the front line. Emerson Lionberger Emerson Lionberger 6'0" | MB Lincoln Southwest | 2024 State NE and Abbie Appleget Abbie Appleget 6'0" | MB Lincoln Southwest | 2024 State NE are two long, physical athletes who really started to find their stride at the end of last year’s club season. Expect that upward trend to continue, especially as they compete alongside David City’s Avery Couch Avery Couch 5'10" | MB David City | 2023 State NE at that middle position.
Ball Control Trio
Lastly, I think it’s worth wrapping up this feature with the players who will help distribute the ball to all these attackers.
Mallorie Meyer Mallorie Meyer 5'5" | DS/L Lincoln East | 2024 State NE was one of my favorite liberos to watch in the 2021 club season, and she’s back with VCNebraska to do her thing once again. She has exceptional body control and will play a huge role in generating positive first contacts for 16 Elite.
The setter spot, meanwhile, is stacked. There were few 2024 setters in Nebraska that had as much of an impact this fall as Ali Bruning Ali Bruning 5'8" | S Nebraska Christian | 2024 State NE . She was a can’t-miss talent for Nebraska Christian this year and helped lift the Eagles to a historic appearance in the state semifinals. Bruning is joined by Waverly setter Caylee Rowley, who will surely have a similar chance to shine on the high school stage soon.
