This Saturday, the biggest event in the region will be the H-Town Showdown #1, a tournament that will feature nearly 200 teams in the 16s, 17s and 18s Divisions and that will be played across three clubs in the area – the Absolute Volleyball Academy (AVA), the FAST Complex and the Texas Tornados .
We’ve picked some very interesting players that will be on the court in the event to highlight and the final article of the series will be dedicated to the setters:
Ashley Richardson – AVA TX 17 Adidas – HS: Clear Springs – 2024
Ashley Richardson was a key player for Clear Springs during the last high school season while playing as a sophomore. The 5’11” prospect did a little bit of everything on the right side, ending the season ranked second in assists (533) and aces (37), fourth in kills (312) and fifth in digs (281). Her versatility gives coaches a lot of options on how to utilize her and awarded her a spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Phenom List.
Catalina Martinez – Skyline 18 Black – HS: Cinco Ranch – 2022
Catalina Martinez does a great job in running a crafty, fast-paced offense in the teams she plays at. The 5’8” Skyline 18 Black setter is coming from a tremendous high school season with Cinco Ranch, one in which she helped the team make a deep post-season run by producing 414 assists, 221 digs and 27 aces. Martinez is very consistent with her sets and intelligent with her distribution. Such a skill set has attracted the University of Memphis, which secured a commitment from her this past November.
Kenedi Medford – Woodlands Revolution 16 Premier – HS: Conroe – 2024
Kenefi Medford was part of Conroe’s roster during the last high school season and even though she had limited playing time behind Josephina Christensen and Prestyn Parish, she did a good job when she got to be on the court, averaging 2.5 assists per set. Medford has good technique and also brings some good value on defense, being also able to play as a defensive specialist. With her 5’9” frame, she’s no liability at the net and has all the tools to develop into a very good setter over the next few years.
