In case you missed it, we teed off this series with some 2024s who have elevated their game early this season. Now, it’s time to turn toward some uncommitted 2023s. This class will undoubtedly be a major focal point for many recruiters over the next several months, so our coverage of these athletes will keep ramping up.
So, here are a few names to know from all the early-season action.
Lauryn England Lauryn England 5'7" | S Malcolm | 2023 State NE – 5’8 S/DS – VCNebraska 17 Elite
England remains one of the most creative and innovative setters in Nebraska’s 2023 class. She can effectively mix tempos when taking the second contact and is also a rock in right-back defense when taking the first contact. Thus, England can succeed at setter or defensive specialist. Watch for this Malcolm athlete to keep making strides in the VCN gym.
Brinly Christensen Brinly Christensen 5'10" | OH Lincoln Southwest | 2023 State NE – 5’10 OH – VCNebraska 17 Elite
This is an exciting multi-sport athlete who is sure to have a busy spring. On the volleyball court, Christensen continues to display her stout six-rotation abilities. She can pass dimes in middle back and also knows how to pass to attack effectively when she’s in the front row. Christensen has made the move to VCN and should keep improving.
Brynn Carey Brynn Carey 5'8" | DS/L Lincoln East | 2023 State NE – 5’8 DS/L – VCNebraska 17 Black
Carey is a great ball control player with a wealth of high-level experience on both the high school and club sides. She has even taken on an outside hitter role when needed. Regardless of position, Carey is a player you always want to have on the court, as she delivers excellent touches almost every time.
Azaria Green – 5’11 MB – Premier Nebraska 17 Black
Just like yesterday’s feature on 2024s, we’re featuring another Iowa athlete who infiltrates the Cornhusker State to compete in the Premier gym. Green showed a lot of good improvement last fall with Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, and now she’s taking on a bigger role with Premier 17 Black. The energy and skill she brings to the floor are indispensable, and her team already has some great showings this year from which to build.

Kaelyn Andersen – 5’4 DS/L – Premier Nebraska 17 Black
Andersen just keeps putting together impressive performances for 17 Black. Whether she’s in the libero jersey or playing as a primary defensive specialist, this Elkhorn High School product can be found sprawling on the floor to keep plays alive. Andersen’s ability to read opposing attackers gives her a big advantage in the backcourt, and 17 Black will surely benefit from that throughout 2022.
Sara Maciejewski Sara Maciejewski 5'9" | OH Skutt Catholic | 2023 State NE – 5’9 OH/DS – Nebraska Elite 17-2
Maciejewski is one of several great all-around players representing Nebraska Elite this spring. Taking the first ball in serve receive does not disrupt her hitting rhythm, and Maciejewski is the kind of player who thrives off of getting opportunities to pass. That’s the kind of outside hitter you want on your side of the net.
Emmalee Sheppard Emmalee Sheppard 5'4" | DS/L Fremont | 2023 State NE – 5’6 DS/L – Nebraska Elite 17-2
This libero has gotten plenty of recognition for her excellent work at Fremont, and now it’s time to give her a club-related shoutout. Sheppard has the Elite 17-2 back row locked down, and she makes it look easy, too. She’s used to seeing high-powered opposing offenses year-round, so Sheppard is well-equipped to handle anything.
