Mukwonago High School ended their 2017 season with a 32-7 record. They won their Home Invite for the second year in a row and took first place in the Brookfield Central Invite where they had to beat some highly ranked teams: Brookfield East, Brookfield Central, Menomonee Falls, and Cedarburg. They beat Catholic Memorial High School in their conference tournament and won the Brookfield East invite for the fourth year in a row. After ending conference play, they won their regional championship game against Waukesha West then moved on to become the sectional champs defeating Menomonee Falls and Arrowhead in the process. This was the first sectional championship in program history. But they didn’t stop there. Having won their sectional final, they moved on to the state tournament, another first for the program.

All of these major accomplishments and ‘firsts’ for Mukwonago are the result of dedicated coaches, hard working players, and true grit. They battled for every title they earned, and boy do they deserve it!

Mukwonago has several key returning players that will be instrumental in achieving as much if not more success in 2018.

Alayna Jansky (Class of 2019, Outside Hitter, Committed to Western Illinois): Alayna is not only the team captain but also a team player. She plays with her heart on her sleeve and is an amazing leader for the team. This six foot incoming senior is awesome on both offense and defense. With 331 kills the past season and a 35.9% kill percentage, she is a powerhouse in the front row. She also contributed 28 blocks, 293 digs, and 43 aces to the season.

Erin Powers (Class of 2020, Outside Hitter): Erin is a virtually unstoppable hitter with power, control, and amazing court awareness. In her first year on varsity she had 272 kills with a kill percentage of 34.8% and an amazing 342 digs. She received the serve 561 times with only 42 errors. Erin is the type of player who always gives it her all and will never give up on the ball.

Dru Henning (Class of 2020, Middle Blocker): Dru really stepped into her game in the 2017 season and will be sure to continue growing through the next season. Coach Alli Glisch called her a “fiercely driven athlete.” She had 117 kills and 47 blocks in 2017, her first year as a varsity player. Dru will be a great leader on the team in the upcoming season.

Sarah Pavletich (Class of 2020, Middle Blocker): Sarah worked extremely hard during the 2017 season and earned herself ample playing time near the end of the season. Coach Glisch commented that she is a “silent threat on the court.” While she doesn’t have the highest statistics on her team, the ones she has for the time she spent on the court are impressive. Sarah is a player to watch in 2018 as she grows into her role as a varsity athlete and continues to earn her time on the court.

The team looks to make it to the state tournament again this year and build on all of their amazing accomplishments in 2017. Coach Glisch said, “we dream big over at Mukwonago because we know if you set the bar low, you’ll never achieve more than that!”
