Here are some liberos (and defensive specialists) who were in beast mode at the first weekend of Badger Region Championships.
Jae Fitting Jae Fitting 5'8" | DS/L Cedarburg | 2024 State WI and Claire Luoma Claire Luoma 5'8" | DS/L Franklin | 2024 State #85 Nation WI – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold
Both of these athletes deserve a shoutout. They are both so talented and are huge playmakers on this team. Jae is scrappy with an incredibly powerful serve. She plays consistently anywhere in the back row and will get a touch on nearly everything that comes over the net.
Claire is reliable and has great court awareness. She is very talented on serve receive and brings energy and consistency to the backcourt. She reads opponents well and communicates with her teammates effectively. These two athletes are some of the top of their class and both performed at the highest level at Badger Champs.
Amelia Derrig – Motion 16 Silver
Amelia really impressed me. She crosses very well in the middle back and covers her teammates well. She has good court awareness and ran the back row very well for her team. They have had success so far this season and Amelia brings consistency and scrappiness as their libero.
Molly Berezowitz Molly Berezowitz DS/L Burlington | 2023 State WI – Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold
Molly is as scrappy as they come. She is disciplined in her movement yet knows when to read opponents. She covers her hitters well and works hard never to let a ball drop. Not only is she naturally talented, but she is also clearly an athlete who works incredibly hard for her success.
Amelia Albers Amelia Albers 5'5" | DS/L Stoughton | 2023 State WI – Capital 17 Adidas
Have you seen Amelia play recently? Because she touches EVERYTHING. Anything that is not an exaggeration. She has been so impressive every time I have seen her play with her discipline, scrappiness, and ability to run down balls and put them up for her setter.
Paige Miller Paige Miller 5'10" | DS/L Kaukauna | 2023 State WI – FC Elite 17 Navy – Committed to Ohio State
Paige continues to show why she is one of the best athletes in her class. She has an incredibly high volleyball IQ and uses it to frustrate opponents. Paige is quick and fearless in the back row and a natural leader on the court.
Angelica Refinski Angelica Refinski OH State WI – Sting 17 Black
Angelica has great ball control and gets nice touches no matter where she is on the court. She is talented and has a lot of potential to continue succeeding as an athlete. Her court awareness is very high level and she plays consistently strong.
