At Prep Dig we typically do not write about players until they have reached high school unless a rare case (for example when one commits to the University of Minnesota during her eighth grade year :). Some have already made their impact at the 15s level and others are waiting for the chance to get that first varsity appearance. Here are some from the Class of 2022 to take a look at.
Mckenna Wucherer – Outside Hitter – Brookfield Central
Wucherer is the third of the Wucherer sisters to put on a Brookfield Central Lancer jersey with Miranda having graduating this past year and is heading to Northern Kentucky and Abby who will be a Junior this year. Wucherer made waves before the club season by giving her commitment to Hugh McCutcheon at the University of Minnesota. A 6’1 outside hitter who has been playing a year up on the Milwaukee Sting Gold teams is a point scoring machine from the pin and the backrow. With elite training from Sting and the USA programs, Wucherer has been playing against some of the top competition in the nation the past few years and will look to continue to improve her all around game at Brookfield Central.
Kaminkski will set at High Performance in TulsaKarissa Kaminski – Setter/Outside Hitter – Howards Grove
Kaminksi spent this past club season playing up for the FC Elite 15 Navy team that finished 5th in the USA Volleyball National Division a couple weeks ago in Detroit. A complete all around players, Kaminski can swing from the outside, serve receive, pass, but has great hands with a smooth release as a setter. This past week Kaminski was named to the Badger Region Girls Select High Performance team that will compete in Tulsa at the end of the month. Kaminski will set, but could play anywhere on the court. Howards Grove won a state title two years ago and will be reloading with an extremely talented Freshman class.
Gionna Trotter – Outside Hitter – Fond du Lac
Trotter is bringing the heat. The outside hitter from Fond du Lac has incredible athletic ability and a heavy arm that can power through a block or find an open spot for the kill. Trotter was at High Performance training in Green Bay last week and played up on the Fond du Lac Fusion 15s team this past season. The ceiling is very high for Trotter and her ability to improve. The power game is on point, but once she mixes a variety of shots and a solid backcourt game she will be tough to stop. She also has great body language and an energy that is totally contagious for her team!
Myka Roethel – Outside Hitter – Howards Grove
Roethel was with Kaminksi on the FC Elite 15 Navy team and is a solid all around player who could play on either pin or even be a libero. At 5’9, Roethel is extremely athletic and physical who is aggressive in how she approaches and swings, but at the same time has the finesse to play in the back row and put a pass to the setter.
Howe will be a Freshman at OconomowocMaleah Howe – Outside Hitter – Oconomowoc
Howe was a 14 Open AAU All American for Milwaukee Sting 14 Gold this year and will be heading to Oconomowoc High School. Oconomowoc is developing into a program where they don’t rebuild, they reload. After a solid Senior class which featured three division one players, they will have other elite players ready to step in. What separates Howe from the rest of the class is how strong she is, swinging from the outside and already has a variety of shots. Watching her play live, its hard to believe she is only 14 with a high volleyball IQ and poise that is very mature.
Brianna Cantrell – Outside Hitter – Appleton North
Appleton North has gone the past five years always having an outside hitter at the All State level. Is Cantrell next in line to be one? Cantrell recently completed High Performance training in Green Bay with the International Youth Badger Region group which also featured Trotter and Howe from the Class of 2022. Cantrell is long, athletic, and already has a knack for what shot to hit in the right situation whether it’s a hard cross court shot or a tip over the block. She can also defend her position well and attack out of the back court. Cantrell was an all tournament selection at NJC 15 Club this past Memorial Day.
Natalie Ring – Outside Hitter – Madison Edgewood
Ring will be with the National High Performance A2 Training Team this summer before she starts her Freshman year at Edgewood out of Madison. At 6’0, Ring is a physical outside who plays high and aggressive. Edgewood has always been solid out of the Madison area, but will look to get back to the state tournament behind Ring and Marquette recruit Ella Foti who will be their setter.
