Continue ReadingI moved on to the older girls as I scouted on day 2, and I can’t describe how hard it was to find my top favorites! There were so many good players at Big South, but here is just a few that caught my eye.
Lily Bolen (Elevation 16 Butcher)– Smooth hands, fast feet, quick to the ball… The perfect mix for anyone that wants a setter, and that’s why Bolen would be a steal for any college program! Bolen is great at staying in tempo and always putting up a hittable ball wherever the pass is on the floor. She adds a solid change of pace serve to her resume as well as being a leader to her team. Plus, Bolen is a setter that plays great defense and is scrappy which is hard to find in a setter running a 5’1. Keep an eye out for this 16s stud!
Brooklyn Tealer (Gainesville Jrs. 16 Black)– An outside hitter from Gainesville, Tealer just bounces up in the air when she plays, and it’s beautiful to the eye! Tealer is great at the cut away shot in the back row where she can look to the left but hit it back towards the right side of the court. It’s so good and nasty to defend! Plus, Tealer is so high up that she’s hitting over people which is again very hard to defend…. I watched this kid hit over the block high seam and then next ball rip down the line to tool the right side blocker’s hand. The potential Tealer has is out of this world because of all her upside and talents she brings!
Hailey Green (MiElite 16 Mizuno)– A libero that takes control of the floor…. that’s what I want, and that’s what you’ll get with Green. I really like her not just because of her skills but the intangibles with how she’s constantly communicating with her offense and defense like where the setter is, how many hitters, what the blockers are taking, etc. Then, on a free ball, I loved her extreme effort to always take the whole court, so everyone can be an option no matter what. It’s the little things with Green that make her so special, and these are the qualities that you’ll see at the college level!
Mia Eickholdt (MiElite 16 Mizuno)– Another player from MElite was too good not to note… Eickholdt is an outside all the way around for her squad, and I absolutely love their play of running a 32. She can bounce it cross, but also Eickholdt is great about keeping a high elbow and turning line. Her 32 swing is super hard to defend because Eickholdt can also go off speed and short tip down the line to beat the right back. Eickholdt is her team’s go-to and is even relied upon in the back row because of her smooth serve receive and strong back row swing out of the pipe.
