Continue ReadingOne thing we know about all team sports is one player cannot do it alone. Each player contributes to the game and the outcome. Win together as a team, finish together as a team. That togetherness is what led to an impressive PVL (Premier Volleyball League) finish for Forza1 North 14UA. Coached under the guidance of Morgan Coberly, Patricia Zarate, and Dani McCree Forza1 North 14UA finished 1st in the PVL Championship and 2nd overall, double qualified in Open for Nationals, 2nd in the Southern, CA region, and are currently ranked 6th in the nation out of 5,160 14s teams. Four of their starters played up this season. The 14s play in Indiana June 27-30th. Here are six Forza1 North players surely to make an impact.
Westley Matavao (2027) |5’10 OH| Playing Up/ Forza1 North 14UA
Westley “Bee” Matavao is one of the youngest outside hitters on the team. She is known for her ability to easily execute line shots and cross-court. She is also known for her leadership on the court and presence at the net. Her back-row defense has made her a 6 rotational player. Matavao’s strong attributes are her topspin serve, back row attacks, and kills at the net. She is an amazing blocker who can pass and brings a great mindset and good energy needed to compete.
Marley Robinson (2027) |5’6 OH/OPPO| Playing Up/ Forza1 North 14UA
Marley Robinson is a smart and versatile player described by her coaches as a “swiss army knife”. She is a quick learner with a do whatever it takes mentality. That thought process has allowed her to have an immediate impact in each position she transitions to. Robinson can read the court and place the ball in exact spots. She communicates very well and is a leader on the court.
Nina Hemsley (2026) |5’10 MB| Rancho HS/ Forza1 North 14UA
Nina Hemsley is fairly new to the MB position. With her height at 5’10, she knows how to get up at every opportunity. Her verticle is used to her advantage to block balls and score. She moves well and is very athletic. Hemsley has great energy and enthusiasm on the court which helps lift the spirits of her teammates when needed. The wall she creates with her hands is firm and solid resulting in a big block to score.
Mya Capistrano (2026) |5’3/L| Playing Up/Forza1 North 14UA
Mya Capistrano is a quick, competitive team player who loves the game. Her ball control with passing takes away some of the pressure that the OH might receive. Capistrano is very good at reading and passing the short ball along with defending against a setter’s dump. She provides great coverage for her hitters and can read the block and attack angles. Capistrano is a very smart player and by far one of the best liberos in 14U.
Jayden Hanson (2026) |5’7 S| San Dimas HS/ Forza1 North 14UA
Jayden Hanson is a committed athlete who strives to make her team the best it can be in her role as a setter. Her hands are smooth and her sets are perfectly on point so that her hitters can capitalize and score. Hanson has strong communication skills and can make quick decisions while running her team’s offense. She is a setter who is not afraid to take a risk. Very competitive on the court. She is always in a zone.
Samantha Capinpin (2026) |5’6 S/OPPO| Mater Dei HS/ Forza1 North 14UA
Samantha “Sam” Capinpin is a left-handed player that can block and execute great sets. She is capable of setting cross-court and creating unpredictable sets. This makes it difficult for opponents to defend. Capinpin can hit down line and pick up digs. She is a 6 rotation player who can get to the ball just about anywhere on the court.
