There will be 64 talented teams from across the country competing in this awesome tournament and hundreds of college coaches in attendance. Northern California will be well represented with two awesome teams in the 16 American Division. It will be a tournament of amazing volleyball and I couldn’t be more excited to cover it in person. We will be previewing a few of the players that will be showcasing their abilities for these awesome California teams. They are some of the best players in the 2024 grad class. Let’s meet a few of the talented players who college coaches need to watch.
Red Rock 16 Chi
They are currently 30-32 overall and are looking to prove they belong in this tough field of teams. They are currently ranked as the 22nd best team in the Northern California region according to AES results. Red Rock 16 Chi finished 34th overall in the USA division of the Red Rock Rave National Qualifier in Las Vegas. They won their bid via the Northern California Regional tournament. Setter Hailey Newell Hailey Newell 5'9" | S Valley Christian | 2024 State CA has a great connection with her middles and such soft hands when delivering to all of her hitters. The ball just comes out of her hands very smoothly. Outside Sophie Ehret jumps well for her size and is a formidable attacker for this squad. Libero Samantha Lai is super quick to both cover her hitters and set up correctly for defense. She utilizes that speed very effectively to help her team stay in each rally as she runs down deflections and errant digs. Left side hitter Audrey Han has a solid frame and tons of power as a point scorer. Middle Kayla Welsh is long and strong as she can help this team stay competitive as a blocker and attacker.
SF Tremors 16 Wolverines
They are currently 52-13 overall and have been rolling as of late. They are currently ranked as the 3rd best team in the Northern California region according to AES results. 16 Wolverines finished 5th overall in the Liberty division of the Pacific Northwest Qualifier in Spokane. They won their bid via the Northern California Regional tournament. Anna Snigorenko is their “big gun” on the left side and she fits the bill for sure. She is very powerful and is not afraid to attack from anywhere. Kaitlyn Viado has exceptional ball control on serve receive. She creates amazing angles and passes nails regularly to her setter. She is one reason the Wolverines stay in system often. Right side Grace Warner is a talented lefty who plays very smart and big above the net. Outside Sarah Caulder maybe smaller in size but she has a phenomenal vertical and exceptional timing as an attacker. This entire team will sneak up on you if you sleep on them. They are very athletic and have great ball control. Setters Kiara Salomon and Samantha Wong do a great job of complementing each other dishing the ball around. They are both very consistent with their location of each set. In my opinion, they are the reason this team has been so good. I am excited to watch them at nationals.
I will be in attendance at nationals and will try to cover as many players/teams as I can. Be sure to share your schedules with me on Twitter once they become live. There are some other great players on these teams that we will be covering during the four day tourney. Stay tuned to see who plays well and deserves kudos as we will be writing articles on how they perform. We will have some good pictures of their play also.
