Four days in Indiana for the GJNC brought about some of the best players from all over the US under one roof. It was exciting and fun to watch 16s and 17s compete in many different divisions. Players from all over get the opportunity to showcase their abilities and teamwork skills in front of family, friends, fans, and college coaches looking to fill their rosters. Coached under the guidance of Yvette Ybarra, San Gabriel Elite 17s Elite was one of the teams competing at the championship.

Nevaeh Tillett (2023) | 5’6 OH/RS | Village Christian HS/ San Gabriel Elite 17Elite

Nevaeh Tillett is a strong outside hitter with a vertical that helps deliver the ball across the net with force. She is a six-rotation player and has great defense in the backcourt because of her speed. Her speed helps her read the ball so that she can get to it faster. She can make plays on offense and defense, scoring and defending the court. Tillett is an all-around player who can adapt to the energy on the court and transition quickly enough to make a play happen.

Dahlia Johnson (2023) | 5’6 S | Arcadia HS/ San Gabriel Elite 17Elite

Dahlia Johnson is a quick setter who had no trouble getting to a ball. If the pass was off, she still managed to get under it and deliver a good set. She doesn’t hesitate to get to a pass. She has a smooth back set and passed the ball around adjusting if the pins were blocked. Johnson was quick to cover her teammates when they hit the ball and able to adjust to tips when playing front row.

Janessa Wareebor (2023) |5’5 L/DS | Burroughs HS (Burbank)/San Gabriel Elite 17Elite

Janessa Wareebor was so fun to watch as she dug and dove on the court, popping up balls with one hand. She is quick and her defense is very clear with her covering and defending the back row. She’s not afraid to get on the ground and make a play. Wareebor can pass on point and defend the court with speed and agility. She is fast at following her pins and being there for blocked balls if they need to be recovered.

Ava Broadbent (2023) | 5’9 OH | Westlake HS/ San Gabriel Elite 17Elite

Ava Broadbent is a lefty who can hit the outside and right side with accuracy and she can block from both sides as well. If she didn’t get the block, she was still able to slow the ball down with a touch. She is a 6-rotation player that can serve receive and pass the ball. Her hits are fast and furious from both sides of the court and the advantage of being left-handed is she can hit cross-court or down line. Broadbent was able to create angles that were hard for her opponents to defend.

A great way to support our volleyball athletes and teams is by sharing our stories with family, friends, and fans. This can be done by subscribing or sharing on social media. Follow Prep Dig and Prep Dig California on the many different social media platforms ie: Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
