“The Camp” Preview – 2023 Standouts to Watch

Our Lady of the Lake University coach Raul Bernal and some wonderful coaches out of the San Antonio area are putting on a wonderful invitational volleyball camp that is dubbed “The Camp” that will be held over two days this coming week. Prep Dig will be in attendance to cover the wonderful players that have been invited to attend. A lot of them are listed either on our State Rankings or they are on our watch list to potentially be added. This is a who's who of Central Texas volleyball players and we couldn't be more excited to see the awesome players on the courts.   This series of articles will highlight the players who will be in attendance. There will be a few articles highlighting the players that stood out once it is complete. Let's start out by meeting a few of the top names to know in the 2023 class.   Mia Francis [2022] 5-8 Outside (HS: Stevens/Club: SA Magic/Verbal: Our Lady of the Lake University) Mia is currently an unranked prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Francis plays at Stevens High School and also club for San Antonio Magic. She is a high flying pin who can kill the ball with authority. She has a lightning quick arm and is very fast in transition. Valeria Ortiz [2023] 5-8 Setter (HS: Alexander/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted) Valeria is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Ortiz plays at Laredo Alexander High School and also club for Alamo. She plays excellent defense out of the right back zone. I love how she jump sets all locations and can fool the block with it. Her set location is very repeatable to all hitters and coaches will love her consistency. I am intrigues to see her in person run a quick middle while in system and push the ball to the pins while out of system. Christine Rangel [2023] 5-9 Right Side (HS: Warren/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted) Christine is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Rangel plays at Warren High School and also club for Alamo. She is a very solid pin who has excellent ball control both offensively and while in serve receive. Her passing technique has a solid foundation and you can see that she is very receptive to coaching from it. She can bang from the right side both cross and down the line. Victoria Urbanczyk [2023] 6-0 Right Side/Outside (HS: Pleasanton/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted) Victoria is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Urbanczyk plays at Pleasanton High School and also club for Alamo. I love the athleticism and power that she possesses. She is quick off of the ground and can score from the back row also. You can put her in any position and she will make a team better. Brooklyne Miko [2023] 5-11 Middle (HS: Cornerstone Christian/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted) Brooklyne is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Miko plays at Cornerstone Christian High School and also club for Alamo. She has a strong serve and can play back row also if needed. Her upper body strength is something that cannot be ignored. She can pound the ball with the best of them. Hannah Spencer [2023] 6-1 Middle (HS: Cornerstone Christian/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Angelo State Uniersity) Hannah is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but is on our watchlist. Miss Spencer plays at Cornerstone Christian High School and also club for Alamo. I have seen her in action a few times and she deserves every superlative adjective that is used to describe her abilities. She can be a stopper in the middle as she is very quick laterally at the net while patrolling to stop all attackers from pin to pin. She will for sure be one of the best middles in the camp and we cannot wait to see her. [player_tooltip player_id="99501" first="Rylee" last="Busse"] [2023] 5-11 Outside (HS: Cornerstone Christian/Club: Alamo/Verbal: University of Memphis) Rylee is currently ranked as the 112thbest overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Busse plays at Cornerstone Christian High School and also club for Alamo. She can literally do it all on the court with tons of flair. I have watched her over the last two years in person and this kiddo can bang with the best. But what I love the most is how hard she plays defense out of middle back. She has libero like skills and wows you with her control.   Isabel Neu [2023] 5-5 Libero (HS: Taft/Club: SA Force/Verbal: Uncommitted) Isabel is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Neu plays at Taft High School and also club for San Antonio Force. She has excellent defensive range and is not afraid to sprawl anywhere on the floor to pick up errant balls. Very little falls near her zone. We are excited to watch her in defensive positional drills. Julianna Bryant [2023] 6-0 Middle (HS: Harlingen/Club: RGV Venom/Verbal: Uncommitted) Julianna is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but is on our watch list. Miss Bryant plays at Harlingen High School and also club for RGV Venom. I have been very intrigued to watch this young fireballer in person for a while now. She is a point scoring threat from the middle who plays with a lot of fire. Her name has been thrown around to me from a couple of coaches and I will be reporting on her skills for sure. Stay tuned. Addison Carrillo [2023] 5-5 Libero (HS: Johnson/Club: SA Force/Verbal: Uncommitted) Addison is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Carrillo plays at Johnson High School and also club for San Antonio Force. She is a solid passer and covers a lot of ground defensively from what we have seen this club season. Mia Molina [2023] 5-11 Outside (HS: Laredo United/Club: SA Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted) Mia is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. Miss Molina plays at Laredo United High School and also club for [program_tooltip program_id='431254' first='San' last='Antonio Juniors']. She is a skilled scorer who can bring the heat when she needs to on either pin.   This first article is just to know who is participating. We will be covering these players and more with insight into their skills and other intangibles that we see from them during individual positional drills and game play.
