Prep Dig is a national website where we cover players at the high school and club level who are capable of playing at the next level. I have written for multiple states in the Midwest and now taking a look through a national lens. In preparation for the high school season, I will be taking a tour of states and some of the top athletes returning who can make an impact this upcoming high school season. Here is a quick take on some athletes from Colorado who will be heading into their senior year. Is this all of them? Absolutely not. There are plenty of athletes we will be taking a look at in Colorado throughout this season and beyond.
Emma Luce – Meeker High School
Committed to Stephen F Austin
Luce is one of the top small school players in the state out of Meeker in Western Colorado where she led the state in 2021 with nearly 700 over the course of the season. Her stats were video game like where she had 673 kills, 7.3 kills/set, and hit .336. Meeker has an athletic and physical style of play where she has a violent arm swing and allows herself to be available to attack from any rotation on the court. She will head to Stephen F. Austin, a Division 1 school Nacogdoches, Texas that is part of the WAC.
Erin McNair – Valor Christian
McNair will be looking to lead Valor Christian back to the state tournament and then some. Valor Christian, out of the South Denver Metro, will have a lineup back full of attackers who were big time point scorers. McNair was a 2nd Team All State pick where she had 349 kills, 3.7 per set along with over 450 digs. McNair is part of the offensive arsenal with five attackers over 100 kills with Skyla Morgan, Grace Langer, Taylor Bowman, and Farrah Eike. This could be a very promising year in 2022 where there is a lot of firepower and depth in this lineup.
Addyson McArthur – Discovery Canyon
McArthur has an explosive skill set where she approaches with aggression. At 5’9, McArthur is a springy athlete where she can take exactly what the defense gives her where she can hammer sharp cross, go down the line, and follow both of these up with a roll shot to the middle of the court. McArthur is also a key pice of Discovery Canyon’s serve receive as a primary passer and puts herself in position to attack and score points out of the backrow. She will look to lead the Thunder back to the state tournament in 2022.
Sydney Dunning – Lamar
Pick a spot and Sydney Dunning is going to find a way to score points. Dunning provides a really heavy swing with a lot of pace which makes it tough for the other side of the net to keep the ball in system. She can hit on the outside or the pin, but the outside is where she could see a future at the next level. With her dynamic attacking skill set, she can find the split which makes her extremely terminal. Her no fear approach makes her fun to watch, a very exciting athlete. She was a 2021 Class 3A 1st Team pick and will look to reload for 2022. Their lone loss of the season was to University in the Class 3A championship.
Kally Kirkwood – Fleming
We’re heading to the small school division in Class 1A where Kirkwood was a 1st Team All State pick as a middle blocker. Kirkwood was a major piece to the puzzle for the Wildcats enroute to a Class 1A Runner Up finish. With over 400 kills on the season, good for 4.6 kills per set and over 100 blocks. Kirkwood will be back, but the Wildcats will be looking to replace attacker Whitney Chintala who averaged nearly four kills per set alongside Kirkwood.
Makenzie Brandon – Chaparral
Brandon played her role for Chaparral as they made their way to the Class 5A state championship match where she had five kills out of the middle. She has a dynamic style of attacking where she can swing in front or behind the setter or can run the slide. She was able to demonstrate how to score points by finding the deep corners. Chaparral graduated a strong core of attackers and will be looking to reload this upcoming fall to get back to big matches at state.
Haley Glunz – Grandview
Committed to Arkansas State
Glunz is extremely dynamic where she can play multiple positions in the front row. She is a fast twitch athlete who can really hammer with multiple tempos. At 6’2, and uber quick she has the lateral speed to close the block from pin to pin while transitioning to be available to attack. Grandview will be in the hunt this season in Class 5A returning Glunz, Emerson Deferme who can do a little bit of everything, along with Gabriella Placide.
