Week four of high school volleyball is seeing steadier lineups, and with that, consistency and chemistry is building. Prep Dig was able to catch Ross S. Sterling and Dayton on Tuesday, August 23. Sterling closed a three-set match with scores 25-13, 25-23, 25-21. This match showcased several standouts highlighted below.
Highlights
Barger is a powerhouse outside that absolutely dominates in her position. She has a heavy hand and uses her range well when closing through her swing. Barger is equally impressive out-of-system and in-system as a six-rotation player. In this match, she connected well with shoots and almost put a hole in the floor when the block was late. She’s a confident defender in middle back and strong offensive option in every rotation.
Tanishua Joseph
Tanishua Joseph
Joseph is a standout middle that can annihilate a quick tempo. With her high reach and quick snap, it’s not shocking when she slams a 10-footer. Joseph is a huge threat to any team, especially when her setters feed her in rallies.
Ashley Aguilar
Ashley Aguilar
Aguilar is a very high energy setter with a ton of spirit and hustle. Running a 6-2, she’s laser focused and communicates constantly on and off the court. As the game progressed, she connected stronger with hitters, and particularly, executed shoots with Barger during critical moments. Aguilar plays with a sense of urgency in everything she does, and she will be a key leader this year.
Olivia Banks
Olivia Banks
Banks brings a lot of presence to the right side because her height and heavy left-handed swing. Her power alone was enough to close several rallies and dominate her position. Bank’s strength and size on the right side is a solid first line of defense against strong outsides. Her block will be critical to helping Dayton this season.
Jerrica Keener
Jerrica Keener
Keener is a six-rotation middle, and after watching this match, it’s clear why she stays on the court. She’s a highly aggressive attacker and has outstanding hustle in the back row. There were several moments during this match that Sterling was confident the ball was dead, but Keener kept it alive. She’s involved in every play for Dayton and is a standout leader for this program.
