The Solon Spartans split season-opening WAMAC quadrangular

<p>The Solon Spartans split at the season-opening WAMAC quadrangular Thursday night at Center Point-Urbana with a two set loss (21-25, 12-25) to 3A 6<sup>th</sup>-ranked Center Point-Urbana and a two set win (25-17, 25-23) against 4A 7<sup>th</sup>-ranked Clear Creek Amana.</p>
<p>The Spartans fought hard against Center Point-Urbana but couldn’t stop the Stormin' Pointers <strong>Delaney McSweeney</strong> and <strong>Emily Kono</strong> at the net. They struggled defensively and just couldn’t get into a rhythm leading to a two set loss to the ranked CPU squad.</p>
<p>Shaking off the CPU loss, the Spartans dominated against the 4A seventh-ranked Clippers. <strong>Rachael Nelson</strong> and <strong>Kennedy Bombei</strong> did a great job moving the ball around, Nelson led in assists with 14 and Bombei contributed 11. 6’0” sophomore outside hitter <strong>Lauren Schrock</strong> delivered blow after blow, racking up 9 kills for Solon. <strong>Abby Smith</strong> (sr., OH), <strong>Kate Benzing</strong> (sr., MB), and <strong>Katie Yi</strong> (jr., MB) added 4 kills each. <strong>Taylor Moore</strong> ended the match with 11 digs.</p>
