There is the anxiety for the students heading into a high school with endless possibilities. An exciting time for these young student athletes. Some may be making an immediate impact for their varsity teams, others might be in between the JV/Varsity level, and some will be stars on their JV or Freshmen team. Plenty of different levels and opportunities for success.
We have reached out to club directors, club coaches, and high school coaches of players who could potentially have a big impact their Freshman year of high school. Some of these players have already been making waves. Here are a few players to note and keep an eye on this year and the next few years to come.
Mckenna Wucherer has been on the radar since she first started playing volleyball. Wucherer committed to Minnesota last winter and will be entering her Freshman year Brookfield Central. Another Lancer on the list is middle blocker Morgan Dougherty.
Adriana Studer will be one of the top liberos for the Class of 2022 with experience playing for Milwaukee Sting and also seeing plenty of success on the beach.
Appleton North and Oconomowoc will be reloading as the future looks bright. North has two Freshmen in Brianna Cantrall and Berkley Mischler playing on varsity this season while Bella Van Lannen was on the Badger Region High Performance Team. Oconomowoc will have Maleah Howe who was an AAU All American in 14 Open as well as Haley Koch.
Aspen Janikowski had a solid year for Milwaukee Sting 15 White and will be playing for Cedarburg which is off to a hot start. Natalie Ring played a year up on the Capital 15 Adidas team and will be an outside hitter for Edgewood. Gianna Trotter was at Badger Region High Performance Camp and will be one of the more electrifying and athletic outsides in the Class of 2022.
Howards Grove will have an extremely young and talented team this upcoming season where three Class of 2022 athletes could see significant playing time in Emma Baierl, Karissa Kaminski, and Mykah Roethel.
River Falls which is one of the top teams in Division 1 graduated a solid core of Seniors last year, but this year their team mantra is “Reload”. Two Freshmen in Haley Graetz who is starting and the middle and Dani Lien will be some key contributors for the Wildcats this year. Both earned All American honors at AAUs this summer.
