The Newman Fighting Cardinals won the tournament with a championship win against the Pius XI Popes. The game was tight, with only an eight point differential for the entire match. Senior Mackenzie Krach and junior Linnea Svennes each contributed 7 kills and the team had 9 aces during the match. Mackenzie Krach also had 10 assists and senior Grace Ende received 13 of the 35 serves during the match and made no errors. This win was a clear team effort with a variety of players contributing significant points to the game.
In the semifinals Newman Catholic beat West Allis Hale and Pius XI defeated Madison East to advance to the championship. West Allis Hale has had some early season success under new head coach Jeff Freitag. Hale beat Eastbrook Academy, Messmer, and West Allis Central in pool play and went on to defeat Brown Deer in the quarterfinal match.
This was a challenging tournament with a great win for Newman Catholic in the end. A very successful day of volleyball to start the season!
