Continue ReadingWe are now a few weeks into the high school season and some big wins are happening. Last night (Tuesday September 4, 2018) had some great matchups both in and out of conference play. Teams were challenged and played hard. Here are a few of the big winners!
Greendale swept West Allis Central keeping them at or under 15 points each game. Senior Ruby Anderson (Uncommitted) had a whopping 12 kills followed by junior Sarah Mattes (Uncommitted) who had 11. Senior Kayce Litzau (Prep Dig Rank #15, Committed to Wichita State) led the team with 5 aces and 15 assists and senior Kayla Maduscha (Uncommitted) contributed 11 digs. This powerhouse team effort allowed them to keep West Allis Central at bay in three quick sets.
Martin Luther swept Greenfield in an offensive battle where competitive serving and blocking set them apart. Junior Sydney Burris (Uncommitted) and senior Claire Weber (Uncommitted) each contributed 8 kills. Senior Bethany Stiemsma (Uncommitted) had 6 aces and went on several long runs, serving 24 times with only one error. Senior Bonnie Jensen had 5 blocks and controlled the net throughout the match.
Wisconsin Lutheran beat Pewaukee in four games on Pewaukee’s home turf. After dropping a tight first set they came back to win the following three, battling point for point in this conference match.
Shorewood swept Cudahy keeping the Meat Packers under 18 points. After some tough losses in the beginning of the season, Shorewood rallied in this match. They played strong and as a team, allowing them to sweep Cudahy.
West Bend East beat Grafton in four tight sets in a point for point battle throughout the match. After losing their conference match to Cedarburg last week, this is a great win for the Suns.
Cedarburg beat Hartford rallying after dropping the second set to win the next two keeping Hartford under 15 points in each of the last two sets. Their offense had 50 kills, with 15 each to juniors Kiara Reinhardt (Prep Dig Rank #1, Committed to Creighton) and Maddie Barber (Uncommitted). The Bulldogs had 12 aces spread across six different players. Senior Stephanie Carr (Uncommitted) had an amazing 33 digs, and did not let anything pass her in the back row. Senior Morgan Harrison (Uncommitted) led the team in assists, contributing 43 on the match.
Oak Creek beat Racine Case in a head to head battle that lasted four sets.
Whitefish Bay swept Port Washington, but not without a fight from the Pirates. For the Blue Dukes, junior Annie McNally (Uncommitted) and sophomore Olivia Lamont (Uncommitted) each contributed 6 kills. Olivia also led the team in digs and service receptions. Sophomore Lily Behrendt (Uncommitted) had 13 assists closely followed by 11 assists from senior Sentibel Pandovski (Uncommitted). This home conference match puts the Blue Dukes conference record at 1-1.
Arrowhead swept Kettle Moraine in a home conference match. Arrowhead is currently undefeated in conference play and has an overall record of 16-2. The match was tight, with the lasers losing by only two points in two of the three sets.
Oconomowoc swept Muskego in a home conference match. Senior Elle Shult (Uncommitted) and junior Tayler Alden (Prep Dig Rank #2, Committed to Northern Iowa) each had 7 kills. Elle had a 70% kill percentage on the match and Tayler had 24 assists. Junior Caitlin Crawford (Prep Dig Rank #37, Committed to South Carolina) led the team with 13 digs and fiercely protected the back court. She also had 13 service receptions with no errors. This win kept the Racoons undefeated in conference play and gave them an overall record of 11-2.
Tuesday was a big day in volleyball with many more to come!
