High School Team Feature – Memorial Mustangs

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The high school volleyball regular season is over in the state of Texas as the playoffs are set to begin and every team in the state has been on the court more than enough times for us to have a good idea about what to expect from them.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here at PrepDig, we are committed to covering and promoting as many prospects as possible, from the most popular names to the hidden gems that typically abound at the Lone Star State and during the high school season we're also doing it by featuring the teams they play at.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Every time we're at the gym, we take the time to give a good look at the teams on the court and we'll try to feature as many as possible here in this space. This time, we'll look at the Memorial Mustangs.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"large"} --> <p class="has-large-font-size"><strong>The Squad</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When the season started, the Mustangs knew it would be a tough one following the graduation of several of their key players from last year, most notably setter Caroline Howell, outside hitter Samantha Cousins and middle blocker Jada Gibson. She has a very high contact point on offense and uses it to hit over the top of opposing blockers, sending the ball toward the end line at a high level of efficiency. Harlan is also strong enough to overpower the block when she's out-of-system, but often prefers to hit around it, displaying great offensive variation. Heath's setting motion is extremely fluid as her release is very clean and she shares the ball among her hitters at a great level too. Heath's talent level is high enough that she's able to accelerate the game even without jump-setting. Very long and athletic, she uses her size well to make an impact at the net. Her blocking timing is impeccable and helps her win most of the jousts and 50-50 plays at the net she's involved with. Her offensive game is also developing nicely but she's already able to cause damage when hitting the slide set. Berg is extremely mobile and very accurate with her passing, even when well the ball is outside her body range. Her first contact is also very good on defense and she had good reactions to get to tips and deflected swings.
