Omaha Marian came into Tuesday night’s match at Elkhorn South still looking for that first statement victory of the 2018 season.
It’s no longer looking.
Class A #8 Omaha Marian improved to 10-5 on the season with an impressive 25-20, 25-20, 25-17 sweep of Class B #2 Elkhorn South, dropping the Storm to 15-5 on the year.
Even though the Crusaders had just four ace serves on the night, Marian’s serving had Elkhorn South scrambling all night. As a result, Marian controlled the match from the outset and never looked back. Elkhorn South did get five kills in the first set from freshman Kylie Weeks and got as close as 22-20 late against Marian, but a pair of Elkhorn South errors sandwiched around a kill by Emily Bressman gave Marian the 25-20 victory.
Marian built comfortable leads of 23-16 in the second set and 21-13 in the third set before closing out those stanzas as well.
Creighton recruit Bressman had a match-high 12 kills for the Crusaders while Hailey Zuroske had 10 and Meredith Mueller chipped in seven. Sarah Montague finished with 19 assists for Marian and Ashley Straub had 18.
Weeks and Nebraska recruit Rylee Gray led Elkhorn South with seven kills apiece. Madi Woodin finished with 29 assists for the Storm.
