#4 – Howards Grove – 18-Match Win Streak
The Tigers (31-7) went 14-0 in Big East Conference play this season without dropping a single set. They’ve doubled their wins since their last loss at the Charger Rally, where they took on top ranked Division 1 teams Arrowhead and Waukesha West, as well as Division 2 powerhouse Wisconsin Lutheran. The Tiger’s earned a #1 seed in the Reedsville half of Sectional 4 and will take on Kohler (#16) in the first round.
#3 – River Ridge – 18-Match Win Streak
River Ridge took down the Six Rivers Conference without dropping a set. In fact, the Timberwolves have only dropped 1 set all season in a tie with Black Hawk on August 25th. The question may be asked, “Was their schedule tough enough?” The postseason will answer that question. Meanwhile they have secured a #1 seed in the Belmont half of Sectional 3 of the Division 4 bracket. The Timberwolves have a first round bye before taking on the winner between #9 Ithaca and #8 Highland.
#2 – Holmen – 20-Match Win Streak
HOLY COW! As if a 28-2 record isn’t impressive enough, the Vikings are on a 20-match win streak! Their last loss was a 5-set thriller to Aquinas in early September. Unfortunately, the strength of schedule was probably their weak point and prevented them from getting higher than a #4 seed in Sectional 3. Their first regional match will be against Tomah (#13) on Thursday, October 18th, and then they will have to work their way to potentially take on Sun Prairie in sectionals.
#1 – Stratford – 39-Match Win Streak
Undefeated. Something rarely done this deep into the season. River Falls made it into the championship match last year before taking their first and only loss. Can the Tiger’s take it all the way? Needless to say, they’ve got a #1 seed in their half of the sectional. They have been pretty dominant over a majority of their half of Sectional 2 in Division 3. Can this train be stopped? Or will they secure the perfect season?
Good luck in the playoffs and embrace the journey!
