Caroline’s setter and teammate, Grace, is a solid and consistent setter whose location and tempo kept the Bruins on the winning side for yet another solid season. Her 1222 assists were tops in 3A and third overall, not to mention being the top assist maker among her graduating class. All of those assists earned her a 2nd team All-State honor. She’s bound for Queens next fall.

From one end of the “flashy” spectrum to the other, Grace is a no-nonsense, get-the-job-done setter that does everything well, despite her lack of size. Still playing an open-level schedule, Grace is more than capable of doing everything—and making it look easy. From her tough hybrid serve to one-hand setting in-tempo outside sets to defending her position at an above-average level, Miss Hargis can do it all, and without the fanfare and flash of some. A workhorse who doesn’t need the credit or accolades, she considers her job well done when her hitters get kills; the true mark of a setter.

Part of the team that earned the National bid at Hoosier Regionals last month, Grace is a little-known setter that has big time skills. Lithe but spritely, Miss Hargis is probably the quickest on this list, and when she gets to the ball, sets an in-tempo quick offense to perfection. I like her footwork a lot—as the shortest on this list, it stands to reason that her feet have to do most of the work, which they do. What people might not see is that Grace makes the setting position in 17 Open look easy. Don’t let her size fool you, though. She’s more than capable of holding her own when running the offense in a 5-1.

As THE setter on a record-setting Tri-West team for the last two seasons, Grace is a reliable and calm setter that knows what hitters need the ball in the exact right situations. Although her size isn’t as big as some listed here today, Miss Hargis is most comfortable in a 5-1 situation, possibly with a smaller school that wants a plug-and-play option immediately upon arrival on campus. I could also see her being part of a 6-2, while still able to go get tight passes and make them hittable. The defense she plays in her position is above-average in this class, and is seemingly always in the right spot at the right time.
