Top Vert’s at Wisconsin Top 250 Expo
Oh the vertical test. Not the end all be all metric by any means, but always fun to see what numbers are out there from some of the top athletes in the state we had at the Wisconsin Top 250. During game play, spectators always get to see the outsides fly to the ball, but maybe not always see the vertical jump of the libero which we had some defensive players really impress when their vertical which is a sign of good overall athletic ability. Middle blockers don’t always get a chance to approach and sometimes just need to be quick with their jumping ability to get to the ball.
At the Prep Dig Top 250 we had athletes test using Vert belts which is an electronic way to test the vertical jump. For our purpose, we measured their top vertical jump based on an approach, but when athletes work with Vert belts at the college or even Olympic level they are measuring not only their vertical jump, but how many jumps, the force at which they are jumping at, average vertical, and trends over time to monitor not only the athletes health, but overall performance.
Here are the Top 10% of athletes with the top vertical jumps at the Wisconsin Top 250 Expo this past weekend at Milwaukee Sting. The 27 inches and above club! To break this down a little bit more we had seven outside hitters, a setter/right side, two middles, and a libero. Appleton North had three athletes in this group.
