The Five:1 Volleyball Club has been seeing growth year after year.

For the 2023 club season, Five:1 has the potential to have its best year yet.

This year's squads have a lot of proven talent and are ready to make a splash in the state of Michigan.

Here's a look at what they bring to the table for their 18 Black squad.

Heather Seegraves is coaching this year's team, which includes eight players already committed to playing at the college level.

The team has an experienced setter leading the way on the floor. [player_tooltip player_id='173601' first='Jenna' last='Sayles'] (Lake Erie) has made a name for herself in the Davison program and is bringing out the best in some explosive hitters at Five:1.

On the outside, this team has a lot of depth and flexibility. [player_tooltip player_id='257624' first='Dani' last='Pohl'] (Belmont Abbey), Makayla Neelands (Edinboro), Sydney Stonerock (Madonna) and Gabrielle Stafford (Adelphi) all have the ability to play around the court at a high level. Pohl is coming off a really big fall in which she led Pewamo-Westphalia to its first Division 3 state championship.

On the right side Nicole Sisk (Saginaw Valley State) makes a great compliment to the outsides, as she brings a long reach and quick first step to the position.

Morgann King and [player_tooltip player_id='172188' first='Ashlee' last='Lenhard'] (Delta) are in the middle for 18 Black. While they don't have the 6-foot size of some of their opponents, they make up for it with effort and determination. They play with a high motor and won't give up on a play.

Defensively, [player_tooltip player_id='66342' first='Kendall' last='White'] (Minnesota State-Mankato) has been a dominant libero in the Lansing area throughout her prep career and a very reliable defender for Five:1. Abby Buttigieg is also a quick and scrappy DS option that can dig up the toughest attacks as well.

Five:1 has had some promising results thus far in 2023. It started with a sixth-place finish in the 18 Open of the JVA Rock ‘N Rumble. It then placed second in the Premier Division of the Central Zone Invite late in January.

Last week, it won the Liberty Division of the OVR 18's Qualifier in Columbus. 18 Black went 9-0 for the weekend, dropping just one set in the process.

If the early results are any indication, Five:1 18 Black has the potential to shake up the state standings and also make a few waves in national play as well.
