HPVBA Nike 17-1 Club Profile

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>High Performance Volleyball is a newer club program that has been able to start finding its footing in recent years.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In 2023, HPVBA is showing some positive results and it has a nice collection of talent from along I-75.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 17's squad is a prime example, as it has a winning record thus far in 2023 while playing some solid competition.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2><strong>HPVBA Nike 17-1</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:image {"align":"right","id":264843,"width":254,"height":168,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2022/12/104-Angelina-Azbell.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-264843" width="254" height="168" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">[player_tooltip player_id='261124' first='Angelina' last='Azbell']</figcaption></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Deena Maher is coaching this year's squad of 10 prospects.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This team features some powerful and athletic arms on the outside that includes <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='110285' first='Devin' last='Brunk']</strong>, <strong>Caroline Khury</strong>, <strong>Gabby Bouzide</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='261124' first='Angelina' last='Azbell']</strong>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brunk was a steady presence for the Lake Orion offense this past fall and is line for a bigger role in 2023. She's got a lot of pop on her attacks and is becoming more consistent with her finishes during the club year. Brunk has also put a lot of work into her passing game and developing into a reliable six-rotation option.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Khury comes from the Stoney Creek program. She's shown a lot of smoothness transitioning from defender to attack when on the floor. She is clean with her serve receive and is able to adapt well to out-of-system balls.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bouzide comes from the Troy program and also plays in the middle. She's got a lot of hang time and covers a lot of space at the net, which leads to her being a solid blocking force. Bouzide is also able to attack with a sharp angle as she can wait that extra millisecond to make contact.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Azbell was one of the leaders for Holly this past prep season. She also can play the RS or the middle. Azbell is listed at 5'11”, but plays longer at the net. On offense, Azbell is steady and consistent with her placement, but can tap a little more into her aggression at times.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Also playing in the middle for HPVBA is <strong>Jillian Van Stee</strong> and <strong>Annabelle Basham</strong>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Van Stee also comes from Stoney Creek program. Listed as a middle, Van Stee has been able to play both pins as well. She's finishing at a solid rate no matter where she is located and is becoming a go-to arm for the squad.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Basham is a Holly product as well. She's listed at 5'9”, but has a lot of good blocking instincts. Her timing is strong and she's got a good lift off the floor. Offensively, she's able to power through a lot of blocking with her explosive jumping ability.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Running the offense are setters <strong>Avari Sparks </strong>and <strong>Sage Sell</strong>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sparks is from Walled Lake Northern's program. She's been steady all around, showing consistent passing and serving, while staying composed as a setter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sell is a Bloomfield Hills product and also brings a consistent presence to the defense. She is a confident libero that brings a lot of energy to the floor. Sipila is able to make a lot of tough digs and is willing to hit the floor to extend a rally. Her highlights have provided a lot of momentum boosts for the squad.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Suhajda comes from Rochester High's program. She's coming off a great prep season with the Falcons and during the club year has been tapping into some OH play. Suhajda has been showing some impressive swings and the ability to adapt quickly. With a great defensive and service game already in her pocket, she's showing this winter that she can make an impact anywhere.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>High Performance isn't likely to overwhelm anyone with its size or power, but the team is putting together consistent overall play and racking up wins. They have had a lot of success in the Michiana Power League thus far, while also earning a top-5 finish in the 17 Open/Premier division of the Presidents Day Challenge. They've had to shuffle the lineup at times, which has led to a few lulls, but overall this team has a lot of cohesion and the success has been infectious for them</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
