Ten uncommitted 2020 players to watch

While most of the college commitments for the Class of 2019 have filled up, it’s time to turn our attention to the Class of 2020. A number of elite players have already made their college choice, but there are still some very talented players weighing their options and taking in offers. Here’s 10 uncommitted 2020 players to keep an eye on.

*This list contains 10 players that we couldn’t confirm any commitment for. If this is incorrect, please let us know.

Keona Salesman, Outside Hitter, Bronson: Our Division 3 Player of the Year for the 2018 prep season, Salesman was a dominant hitter for the D3 champs, Bronson. She earned First Team All-State honors this fall after amassing over 500 kills. Salesman plays very long at the net and can jump out of the building. She will be a great asset to a college program in 2020.

Paige Gallentine, Libero, Charyl Stockwell Academy: A Second Team All-State selection in Division 3 for the fall of 2018, Gallentine showed her ability to play outside as well as set for Charyl Stockwell. However, she plays libero for Michigan Elite 17 Mizuno and that is her top position. Gallentine puts herself in great position in the back row and has the athleticism to contribute in other areas when needed.

Christine Audette, Outside Hitter, Marian: Audette really had a breakout 2018 fall season for Marian and is hoping to lead that into a great club year as part of Legacy 17-Elite. Audette went toe-to-toe with a number of the state’s top hitters this fall and held her own. She led Marian in kills with over 550 and also led the team in digs with over 450. Audette earned Second Team All-State honors in Division 1 in 2018.

Clare McNamara, Outside Hitter/Middle Hitter, Northville: McNamara impressed a lot of people this fall, helping the Mustangs reach the Division 1 state semifinals. A Third Team All-State pick in D1, McNamara played very big at the net with her 5-11 frame. She brought a lot of power with her attacks, but also earned nearly 100 blocks last season. A standout in soccer and track as well, volleyball may not be in her college future, but that would be her choice.

Gracie Gorsline, Libero, East Grand Rapids: Gorsline is definitely a player that gives her all to the position. As a member of East Grand Rapids and MVA 17 National Black, Gorsline is often putting her body at risk to make a play, but she usually makes it. An athletic libero, Gorsline always shows a good sense of where the play is heading and puts herself in position to keep her team in the point.

Makayla Smith, Middle Hitter/Right Side, Portage Northern: Smith is an explosive player that will definitely have a lot of responsibility next season with Portage Northern. Also a member of Dead Frog, Smith has been easy to notice on the court with her consistent ability to play over the net. A strong middle that is developing her outside game, Smith should only get better in the next year.

Ayva Kooistra, Middle Hitter, Grand Rapids Christian: One of the many hitting options for Grand Rapids Christian this season, Kooistra helped the Eagles claim the Division 2 state championship back in November. The 6-1 middle, who also plays for MVA 17 National Black, led GRC in blocks this fall and has a presence at the net that makes opponents have to try and avoid her with their attacks. As she sees more swings next fall, Kooistra should just continue to become more dominant.

Lila Splavec, Middle Hitter/Right Side, Charyl Stockwell Academy: Standing an impressive 6-foot-4, Splavec can only get better. She’s got the natural gift of size and continues to improve with her hitting and attacks. Playing with Legacy 17-Elite will only get her stronger, as she will face some of the top 2020 hitters from around the country this club season. Splavec led Charyl Stockwell in blocks this fall and was second in kills. She also has a strong serve and showed a lot of defensive skills.

Meghan Meyer, Middle Hitter, Lowell: The 6-foot middle for Lowell helped the Red Arrows have a strong season and is now looking to lead MVA 17 National Black to big things in the club season. She earned Third Team All-State honors in Division 1 in 2018 and was part of a deep roster of hitters for Lowell. Next fall, Meyer should continue to push herself into the spotlight.

Taylor Wegener, Outside Hitter, Ida: Wegener certainly knows how to finish points. She led the Bluestreaks in kills this fall with 577 while also racking up 422 digs and pushing toward 100 blocks and aces. Wegener definitely has the all-around skills that should catch the eyes of college programs. She was a Second Team All-State selection in Division 2 and will be one of the top returning players in D2 next fall.
