As usual, Nebraska has a stacked line-up of club teams that have the potential to make some noise in the national tournaments and championships later this spring and summer. Here is a look at where teams from Nebraska rank according to PrepVolleyball.com’s rankings up to this point in the season.
18s
It’s always a little difficult to project how well 18s teams will do because so many of the athletes already have their college scholarships lined-up and many times kids are ready to move on to the next level mentally. But, Nebraska has good strength at the 18s.
VCNebraska 18 Elite comes in at #39 nationally in the 18s rankings followed by Nebraska Elite 18 Ying at #74 and Premier 18 Gold at #80. Nebraska ONE 18 Titanium was among the teams in the honorable mention list.
This seems right, to me, so far as neither Nebraska Elite nor Premier performed the way I’m sure they would have liked to at the January Thaw tournament against some of the top teams in the nation. We’ll get out first real look at VCNebraska 18 Elite this weekend in the Midwest Power League in Omaha. I am a little surprised, however, that Nebraska ONE 18 Titanium didn’t get more love in the rankings. That team has the potential to be the best 18s team in the state – or close to VCN 18 Elite, at least – so I would look for that squad to be on the rise in coming weeks.
17s
Nebraska Elite 17 Frost is the top-ranked team in Nebraska in this division, with a #36 ranking nationally. Premier 17 Gold is just a couple spots back at #41 and Nebraska Juniors 17 Black was on the honorable mention list.
Again, all three of these teams will be in action this weekend in the Midwest Power League and the national rankings will probably fluctuate based on how things go this weekend in Omaha.
16s
Premier 16 Gold features three division I players on the team and is the top-ranked team nationally from Nebraska, although the 16s division appears to be the strength of Nebraska teams this year.
Premier 16 Gold starts the year ranked #13 nationally with Nebraska Elite 16 2.0 ranked #17. VCNebraska also has a standout group at the 16s age level and its 16 Elite team is ranked #32.
15s
The highest national ranking of any team from Nebraska belongs to Premier 15 Gold, which holds down the #12 spot in the nation in the age group. Nebraska Elite 15 Revolution comes in at #35 and Nebraska ONE 151 is on the honorable mention list.
