One club team that is definitely making some noise thus far in the 2023 club season is Inside Out 18 Mizuno Black.

This squad has been racking up wins with a nice combination of 2023 and 2024 prospects.

Here's a closer look at Inside Out's strong squad.

Inside Out 18 Mizuno Black

Rick Rykse is coaching this year's squad, which features nine talents.

Inside Out is relying on a lone setter in 6-footer [player_tooltip player_id='66341' first='Hayley' last='Wegener']. The Coopersville product will be heading off to Ferris State next fall. She's got great athleticism for being a 6-foot setter, which allows her to run a very fast offense and keep blockers on their heels. Wegener has a great feel for her hitters and is in complete command on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='108716' first='Emily' last='May'] is on the outside and was a Coopersville teammate of Wegener. The two will also be playing together at Ferris State. May, a 6'2” power hitter that has an underrated defensive game, is one of the more explosive hitters in the Class of 2023. She's able to bring the heat in nearly every swing she takes.

Sidney Slanger is another outside option that comes from the Class of 2024. The Allendale product led her prep squad in kills this past fall and has shown to be a balanced player that can finish consistently from the net or the back row. Slanger plays with a lot of poise.

Madisyn Dykema is an outside/middle option. Dykema comes from the Reeths-Puffer program. The 6'1” hitter has good footwork and shows consistency in her reads of the sets and the defense. Dykema has good power on her attack, but mixes in offspeed shots efficiently.

Maddy Vaara is a 2024 player that can play the outside or the middle. The 6'1” hitter comes from Ludington, where she was a dominant player for the Orioles. Vaara is really explosive off the floor and her long arms allow her to attack at sharp angles. She can put down some highlight-reel kills.

Kyleigh Weck is a 2024 hitter that can play the middle or right side. The 6'2” Weck comes from the Reed City program. Weck is a strong, left-handed arm that gives a lot of balance to this Inside Out offense. She can attack from a variety of angles and still produce a lot of velocity on out-of-system swings.

Anastacia Trevino is a primary middle. The 5'11” Trevino comes from Montague, where she led the squad in hitting this past fall with a .306 hitting percentage. Her timing at the net is a great asset. Trevino is able to disguise her attack angles and still put a lot of consistent speed on the ball. Her footwork also has helped be a highly-successful finisher.

Defensively, Shelbie Schoenborn is the squad's libero. She's a Coopersville product as well that can also play RS if needed, but her all-around talents have allowed her to step into the back row for Inside Out. Schoenborn is agile and composed on the floor. She looks very comfortable in the libero position and is the unsung hero for the team's success.

Sylvie Rossman rounds out of the roster as a DS option. She also played at Coopersville, so she has a lot of experience with Schoenborn, Wegener and May on the floor. Rossman has good command of her spot in the back row and is very reliable on the serve receive.

You can't really find a weakness in this Inside Out club, which would explain their 32-4 record thus far. They had an impressive unbeaten run through the Lake Michigan Open Power League, then followed it up with second-place finishes in the 18 Open/Premier divisions of the Ft. Wayne MLK Challenge and Presidents Day Challenge. They also finished second in Dunes March Madness in the 18 Girls division.

This team is playing with plenty of confidence and that should continue into the late stages of the 18s club year.

One club team that is definitely making some noise thus far in the 2023 club season is Inside Out 18 Mizuno Black.
